Luxury jets, hotels on Mitt Romney’s $5 million campaign tab (flip-flop alert)

"... Mitt Romney shelled out more than $5 million
in campaign cash over the past three months,
including blowing $80,000 on hotel rooms in Las Vegas,
$50,000 on a security squad
and $125,000 on private jets — despite a pledge
to scale back on luxury travel, new campaign filings show.
The Beverly-based flights were aboard a 2005 Cessna Citation CJ3,
an eight-seat luxury corporate jet
with leather interior and a staggering $5.8 million price tag.

"News of the flights comes after an April speech in Iowa,
during which Romney said his 2012 campaign
would be more frugal than his 2008 operation,
especially on private jet use."

".... The reports also show Romney spent $1.6 million on consultants"

"Megan Jacobs, spokeswoman for the Iowa Democratic Party,
said the spending flies in the face of Romney’s decision not to put
resources into participating in the Iowa straw poll in August."

"We don't intend to turn the Republican Party
over to the traitors in the battle just ended.
We will have no more of those candidates who are pledged
to the same goals as our opposition and who seek our support.
Turning the Party over to the so-called moderates
wouldn't make any sense at all.""

And that $5M that Gov. Palin didn’t spend this quarter was another $5M of promises she didn’t have to make to large donors.

And, oh yes, Palin’s third-year budget in Alaska was lower than the budget before she took office. A feat that, believe me, Romney didn’t come close to pulling off in MA.

Whom do we trust to be fiscally conservative with our governmental coffers?

A real Conservative that had the money mitt has, would pay for that jet with his own money and would appear at the plant that made these jets and the vendors that supply the parts to these jets and make the media interview these people about the communists and obama attacking their industry and killing their jobs... yep... a REAL CONSERVATIVE would do that... but mitt is a baby killing communist himself so he will find some way to find a loophole where WE THE PEOPLE pay for the majority of his royal lifestyle.

"As U.S. real output grew 13 percent between 2002 and 2006, Massachusetts trailed at 9 percent.
* Manufacturing employment fell 7 percent nationwide those years, but sank 14 percent under Romney, placing Massachusetts 48th among the states.
* Between fall 2003 and autumn 2006, U.S. job growth averaged 5.4 percent, nearly three times Massachusetts' anemic 1.9 percent pace.
* While 8 million Americans over age 16 found work between 2002 and 2006, the number of employed Massachusetts residents actually declined by 8,500 during those years.
"Massachusetts was the only state to have failed to post any gain in its pool of employed residents," professors Sum and McLaughlin concluded.
In an April 2003 meeting with the Massachusetts congressional delegation in Washington, Romney failed to endorse President Bush's $726 billion tax-cut proposal."

"....despite a pledge...."

And that is part of the problem - Mitt may be a nice guy, but he just doesn't know what it's like to be a "commoner".

I am not a Romney fan by any means, but I dare say that Zero has blown more of our money on campaigning, which he seems to be in perpetual mode, than Romney could ever imagine.

Obviously Mitt can afford to travel anyway he wants anytime he wants - maybe it would be better to have the guy bagging groceries at Demoulas to run ? You put that picture of RWR in here but he would never even insinuate what this article and thread are getting toward...thou shall not speak ill....

Well, that WOULD have been a good point if only
Team ROMNEY had not been involved in attacks on Gov. Palin.

Late in October, The American Spectator's The Prowler revealed:
"Former Mitt Romney presidential campaign staffers…
have been involved in spreading anti-Palin spin to reporters, seeking to diminish her standing after the election.
'Sarah Palin is a lightweight, she won't be the first, not even the third, person people will think of when it comes to 2012,'
says one former Romney aide…
'The only serious candidate ready to challenge to lead the Republican Party is Mitt Romney.
"Some former Romney aides were behind the recent leaks to media, including CNN, that Governor Sarah Palin was a 'diva' and was going off message intentionally."

The Palmetto Scoop reported: "One of the first stories to hit the national airwaves was
the claim of a major internal strife between close McCain aides and the folks handling his running mate Sarah Palin."
"I’m told by very good sources that this was indeed the case and that a rift had developed, but it was between Palin’s people and the staffers brought on from the failed presidential campaign of former Gov. Mitt Romney, not McCain aides."
"The sources said nearly 80 percent of Romney’s former staff was absorbed by McCain and these individuals were responsible for what amounts to a premeditated, last-minute sabotage of Palin."
… aides loyal to Romney inside the McCain campaign, said The Scoop, reportedly saw
that Palin would be a serious contender for the Republican nomination in 2012 or 2016, which made her a threat to another presidential quest by Romney.

"These staffers are now out trying to finish her off ….hoping it would ingratiate themselves with Mitt Romney."

"Who's the Palin Leaker from the McCain Campaign?
National Review Online The publication of a Vanity Fair profile of Sarah Palin
appears to have opened old wounds in the McCain campaign.
... the source of the “Diva” leak was Nicolle Wallace’s husband."

Mitt is used to living high on the hog.

We are now in a depression in this country and we need someone in the White House who knows how to be frugal.

Mitt is not that man.

I could have saved him 1.59 million there by informing him to drop out now.

You miss the point. Romney said he would scale back the cost for primo travel and accomodations - and didn't - and he isn't just spending his money, he's spending the money from campaign contributors.

So once again, he says one thing and does another.

This is absurd. I know Romney is unpopular here on FR but to deliberately lie about him, does YOU no good. Do not take LLS's posts serious.

It’s either Mitt’s money or that of his contributors and who cares how he spends it. If he’s got it and he wants to spend it on luxuries, that is his business and besides there are lots of workers who were beneficiaries of his spending. Good for Mitt. Thou shalt not covet.

Mitt sucks, and so does this piece. It’s just a bunch of numbers without context.

Agreed, Mitt has to go and there is PLENTY out there to go after him with. How he (or Newt for that matter) spends his own money isn’t one of them.

Of course, we will never know how much Mrs. Great Leader spends on her many vacations and small jaunts over the world. Nor will the Boston Globe ever draw attention to this fact.

What is the "deliberate lie"?

Are you suggesting that Myth Romney doesn't have a history of supporting abortion?

Are you suggesting that Myth Romney doesn't have a history of supporting socialist programs?
