From page 3:
For McConnell, Senate Minority Whip Jon Kyl (R-Ariz.) is widely expected to get the nod, given his conservative credentials, ties to McConnell and his work in the Biden group.
But if Republicans stay united, theyd need one additional Democrat to break ranks and back a cuts-only approach - so McConnell may want to choose a senator with bipartisan appeal who is loyal to leadership, like either Sen. Lamar Alexander (R-Tenn.) or Sen. Rob Portman (R-Ohio).
At a townhall in Winchester, Ky. on Monday, McConnell told a crowd that he wanted significant entitlement reform to be part of the mix that the super committee proposes. Last week on Fox News, McConnell declared that tax increases were essentially off the table.
Upping the rhetoric, House Majority Leader Eric Cantor (R-Va.) issued a memo to his colleagues on Monday evening to blast the S&Ps suggestion that revenue raisers be part of the mix and to insist that higher taxes should not be part of the super committees solution.
I believe this is what we must demand from the Joint Committee as it begins its work, Cantor said to House Republicans.
Cantor is a possible choice for the committee - and Boehner may choose similar hard-nosed conservatives to throw a bone to tea party-backed lawmakers skeptical of his handling of the debt ceiling debate.
Pelosi has not yet indicated who she will pick, but Rep. Chris Van Hollen (D-Md.), the top Democrat on the House Budget Committee, is a possible pick, according to Democratic sources. Other potential selections include Reps. James Clyburn (S.C.), the Assistant Democratic Leader, and Xavier Becerra (D-Calif.), the top Latino in the Democratic Caucus.

I wonder who the top Euro in the caucus is? Do they have a slot for the top Afro & Asiao as well?
None of them will / can do what needs to be done.
Screw *politico’s* reporting.
McConnell had better hold strong.
Reid has already showed his hand and they’re a threesome of one commie traitor, one blubbering idiot and the corrupt Baucus.
the butt kissing is over and the winners are
Did I read the headline correctly? “Harry Reid’s Pricks in Place”?
Must include Weiner, Frank, Pelosi (Italian for pickle), Schmucky Schumer, etc.
For diversity, the Dems should include several members from Chicago (graveyards).
I’ve seen better picks come out of my nose.
This so-called “super committee” does not exist in any way shape nor form in the USC.
It has no existence, power, nor authority.
The most junior member of Congress can and should file an injunction squashing any and all edicts from this kangaroo kounsel.
I hope we have at least a few who have read and understand the USC.
AMEN!!! Someone has got to file suit on this thing.
I second that AMEN!
Dingy Harry picked Ketch-up Boy, Maria Whatever Her Name Is, and Baucus.
For balance, Mitchie should pick Rand Paul, Jim DeMint, and Mike Lee. And the chances of him doing that are as great as getting Oblunder to praise the founding fathers and the greatness of this country.
Ryan ,Paul, and Demint. should be three of the picks.
Safe picks for Reid. Murray was reelected in 2010 (52%), Baucas (73%) & Kerry (65%) in 2008.
Apparently these kinds of committees have been found constitutional. Maybe not exactly like this, I don’t know.
Congress is empowered to make all laws which do not violate the constitution. It made this law to force cuts. Where do you think it violates the constitution?
>>Where do you think it violates the constitution?<<
All spending decisions must come from the House. This little committee can make suggestions but, from what I understand, there is an intention for their ideas to go straight to law.
If they want to play house and come up with a list of suggestions, good for them. If there is an intent to bypass the USC (which is what I think is the intent), then we have a problem.
I thought that would be your response.
“All Bills for raising Revenue shall originate in the House; but the Senate may propose or concur with Amendments, as on other Bills.” Article I, Section 7
Since this will not produce Bills for raising revenue this may not apply.
I’m looking through the Constitution right now to find out what it says about the make-up of super committees.
It’s just a show, there is no different who they pick.
