Flanked by a cadre of local political leaders, Mayor Chuck Reed of San Jose used a ribbon-cutting ceremony for a solar power company last week to talk up the promise of the green economy.
Mr. Reed called the opening of the new headquarters of SolFocus, which produces large, free-standing solar panels, an “enormously important” development for the city’s economy.
“Clean technology is the next wave of innovation that Silicon Valley needs to capture,” the mayor said, noting that the San Jose City Council had committed to increasing the number of “green jobs” in the city to 25,000 by 2022. San Jose currently has 4,350 such jobs, according to city officials.
But SolFocus assembles its solar panels in China, and the new San Jose headquarters employs just 90 people.
In the Bay Area as in much of the country, the green economy is not proving to be the job-creation engine that many politicians envisioned. President Obama once pledged to create five million green jobs over 10 years. Gov. Jerry Brown promised 500,000 clean-technology jobs statewide by the end of the decade. But the results so far suggest such numbers are a pipe dream.
“I won’t say I’m not frustrated,” said Van Jones, an Oakland activist who served briefly as Mr. Obama’s green-jobs czar before resigning under fire after conservative critics said he had signed a petition accusing the Bush administration of deliberately allowing the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks, a claim Mr. Jones denies.
A study released in July by the non-partisan Brookings Institution found clean-technology jobs accounted for just 2 percent of employment nationwide and only slightly more — 2.2 percent — in Silicon Valley. Rather than adding jobs, the study found, the sector actually lost 492 positions from 2003 to 2010[...]

Two years after it was awarded $186 million in federal stimulus money to weatherize drafty homes, California has spent only a little over half that sum and has so far created the equivalent of just 538 full-time jobs in the last quarter
The Economic Development Department in California reports that $59 million in state, federal and private money dedicated to green jobs training and apprenticeship has led to only 719 job placements — the equivalent of an $82,000 subsidy for each one.
Richmond BUILD has found jobs for 159 of the 221 students who have entered its clean-energy program — but only 35 graduates are employed with solar and energy efficiency companies, with the balance doing more traditional building trades work.
Isn't that a bit like saying, "the non-partisan New York Times"?
Love the line that the panels are made in China. What do these nimrods expect? They will make them in the cheapest place on earth and sell for a premium price to the rest of the world.
How can this be?
There were actually more "green" jobs in the US during George W. Bush's first administration than in The Obama Era.
“Green jobs” means jobs for salespeople selling solar panels made in whatever country has the absolute least environmental regulations.
The whole “green economy” agenda is nothing more than a scam designed to shut down any remaining western industries so that all the “pollution” can be moved to the filthiest countries on earth. This achieves: the appearance of cleanliness, taxes for redistribution to pet constituencies, increased dependence on government for transfer payments, more political donations to secure the arbitrary ‘exemptions’ needed for any business to survive), and warm fuzzy feelings for liberals.
In short, it is the way to get from here to a corrupt command economy.

And part of the sales pitch is about the tax credits the buyer can get from the federal government (paid for by the USA taxpayer, yay team!)
I seem to remember silicon processing being called "clean technology" in its infancy, before the discovery of TCE in groundwater...
Don’t they mean “SOULfocus?”
It is annoying and, ultimately, frustrating that there are so many people who actually believe the government can create a new sector of the economy. And one that would satisfy the “green” fetish of the left to boot.
Their idea of this "market mechanism" is government intervention to raise the cost of traditional energy sources so high that the "green" energy can successfully compete.
And they're finding out that it's not working---rather than paying for higher energy costs and buying all of these expensive "green" home improvements as anticipated, people have just stopped buying, period.

One of the economic “pundits” has an article out today claiming that we are talking ourselves into a recession.
We are not. Economic reality is setting in.
What we’d been doing for two years was talking ourselves into a recovery.
Why?
If it needs an artificial (not market-based) influx to keep it afloat, it is not real.
What is true of the economy at large is also true of these “green jobs.” They are artificially sustained by subsidies and the industry will ultimately fail. It may succeed some day, when there is a real market demand for it.

“Right after Rosa Parks refused to give up her seat if the civil rights leaders had jumped out and said OK now we want reparations for Slavery, we want redistribution of all the wealth, and we want to legalize mixed marriages. If we’d come out with a maximum program the very next day, they’d been laughed at. Instead they came out with a very minimum. “We just want to integrate these busses…”
But, inside that minimum demand was a very radical kernel that eventually meant that from 1964 to 1968 complete revolution was on the table for this country.
And, I think that this green movement has to pursue those same steps and stages.
Right now we say we want to move from suicidal gray capitalism to something eco-capitalism where at least we’re not fast-tracking the destruction of the whole planet. Will that be enough? No, it won’t be enough. We want to go beyond the systems of exploitation and oppression all together. But, that’s a process and I think that’s what’s great about the movement that is beginning to emerge is that the CRISIS is so severe in terms of joblessness, violence and now ecological threats that people are willing to be both pragmatic and visionary.
So the green economy will start off as a small subset and we are going to push it and push it and push it until it becomes the engine for transforming the whole society.

Here's the original source for the Van Jones quote about the time he spent in jail following the Rodney King/LA riots (Jones was arrested in "peaceful" protests in San Fran). It was in a 2005 interview he did with East Bay Express. They of course (what else?) claim he "renounced his rowdy Black Nationalist ways" since then (yet he's calling for "complete revolution" in Aug 2009! ...see above):
But in jail, he said, "I met all these young radical people of color -- I mean really radical, communists and anarchists. And it was, like, 'This is what I need to be a part of.'" Although he already had a plane ticket, he decided to stay in San Francisco. "I spent the next ten years of my life working with a lot of those people I met in jail, trying to be a revolutionary." In the months that followed, he let go of any lingering thoughts that he might fit in with the status quo. Look into the ethanol plant in Clearfield,Pa. 250 million dollars for the facility and it barely stayed open for 6 month.

Green is mostly a scam.
The few percent that can be RELIEABLY produce is not going to save the planet. However, it is going to make a handful of sellouts very wealthy while it slowly breaks the rest of us.
There’ve been enough Obama negative articles from traditionally Leftist Obama supporting entities lately to cause me to believe there will be an announcement soon by the Democrats. They seem to be prepping us with reasons for coming change in their cast of characters.
Obama’s done his job, and all but destroyed this Nation. Between him, and Bill Clinton who laid the groundwork for much of that which Obama has turned upside down.
Their plan was that Al Gore was supposed to have won.
