President Obama on Wednesday pulled rank on the Republican presidential candidates, announcing a key jobs speech next week on the same night as a GOP 2012 primary debate in California.
The two-hour debate, at the Ronald Reagan Presidential Library, was supposed to start at 8 p.m. on Sept. 7. In his letter to congressional leaders Wednesday, Obama requested to speak before a joint session of Congress at the very same time.
...
The White House insisted the timing was coincidental. Press Secretary Jay Carney told reporters there were many scheduling "considerations" and suggested the president has no interest in detracting from the debate viewership.
He said the administration would "welcome" a decision by debate hosts to "adjust the timing of their debate so that it didn't conflict."

Boehner should allow it if:
1. He does it in 20 minutes without TOTUS.
2. Ryan gives a 10 minute rebuttal.
3. Obummer gets a 10 minute rebuttal. (Rebuttal is dubious, since, he will read the remainder of his address.)
4. Ryan gets 5 minutes.
This pretender is shoulder deep up his own a$$hole. I’m coining a new phrase here that speaks to his particular style of a-hat ... “The Obama Sombrero”.
Obama should just submit a 2 page written plan. There’s zero need for another “big idea” speech filled with platitudes about green jobs/green energy and extending unemployment benefits and building infrastructure (without waving all of the costly and useless environmental studies and minority bidding requirements, etc.), when at the very same time he is killing jobs with regulations and killing off energy jobs in the gulf and killing our power generation capabilities. F^**ing TRAITOR!!!!!!!!!!!!
“Though the debate is one of many, it would be the first to feature Texas Gov. Rick Perry...”
Ah, there is the money quote, right there. Somebody is scared and doesn’t want Americans to see Perry outside of MSM soundbite mode.
I think they edited the title because of its length. Originally contained “Hand” or “Blow”.
They don’t have to invite him at all, actually - he can only show up if invited, that’s Congress’ prerogative.
Just Say NO!.
There is nothing magic about Sept. 7th for Obama to give a BS speech on a subject he cares little about. He will have wasted five weeks to give this speech by that time, while the nation suffers.
Boehner should tell him the HOuse is not available and Zero can give the speech from the Oval Office.
The only reason Zero wants a joint session is to grandstand and have TV show the Dems wildly applauding evert fart of his, while the GOP sits on their hands.
Just say NO!, Boehner.
Zero has stiffed the GOP enough times on this debate—don’t give him another platform to do so again at your expense.
So's the Bamster.
I wish he gave (Steve) Jobs’ speech - his resignation speech.
The entire Republican Caucus of both houses should fly to the debate.
Looks like they are telling Obama to MOVE IT ! Could the gop be growing a pair of balls?????
Looks like they are telling Obama to MOVE IT ! Could the gop be growing a pair of balls?????
Yes, Obama could not be more clear. . .’authentic’ leadership; is as foreign a concept as he is. . .
. . .and of course, we know, while Obama is a walking/talking accident. . .there is nothing ‘coincidental’ about anything he does.
He always has to make a statement. Remember when he scheduled a speech in the same time slot as A Charlie Brown Christmas?
I guess skinny, little, henpecked men with big wives have to use passive aggression as a means to make themselves feel big.
Boehner should advise the administration the only available date for his joint congressional campaign, I mean, jobs speech is Super Bowl Sunday. He can go up against Puppy Bowl.No doubt the puppies would outpoll him.
Boehner can turn him down, which would make him look small.
The GOP candidates can agree to postpone the debate until the day after the speech which would
1. make him look small and
2. give the GOP crew a chance to rip him royally the next day in a debate which is sure to garner bigger ratings than otherwise .
And worst of all for 0, Boehner agrees to the joint session, but the GOP contenders go ahead anyway and draw better ratings than 0-- which I think would actually be likely.
It is a lose-lose on just about every count for Obama. He is the king of screwups.
Pssst....note the date!
