Did you know? On Friday Obama declared September 11 "National Grandparents Day"

Despite the seemingly singular focus on tragedy this September 11, the White House found another purpose for the day: recognizing the importance of grandparents.

Quietly on Friday, President Barack Obama declared September 11, 2011 National Grandparents Day.

“NOW, THEREFORE, I, BARACK OBAMA, President of the United States of America, by virtue of the authority vested in me by the Constitution and the laws of the United States, do hereby proclaim September 11, 2011, as National Grandparents Day,” Obama officially declared. “I call upon all Americans to take the time to honor their own grandparents and those in their community.”

This was deliberately done to downplay the dastardly attack on this country by his muzzie brethren. What an obvious ploy by the POSUS.

Careful now, this is a long standing tradition that only happens to fall on 9/11 this year. Let's not dilute our criticism of the _resident by painting an ulterior motive on each and every thing he does without checking first:

"President Jimmy Carter, in 1978, proclaimed that National Grandparents Day would be celebrated every year on the first Sunday after Labor Day."

Carter couldn't predict 9-11 even though he lit the fuse.

It's not like it coincides with National Ice Cream Day or Chimney Sweep Appreciation Week.

It's the second Sunday in September every year.

People need to take the tinfoil off every once in a while.

It's fitting -- very fitting -- in a way that Obama certainly never intended.

I was too young at the time of Pearl Harbor to understand what had happened.. but one year latter the problem was well on its way to being fixed!

So there was never an annual crying and remembering the victims.. there was never -- absolutely never -- any worrying about offending the attackers.. so one -- I repeat -- no one even considered apologizing for wanting to settle the score once and for all.

THANK YOU! Grandma and Grandpa!

Is this a joke? I’m confused because 9/11 was grandparents day before 9/11 even occurred. It’s even printed on my calenders. If he really said that, then he’s more delusional than I thought. This was Jimmy “I sinned and looked at Playboy” Carter’s idea.

The first Sunday after Labor Day has been Grandparents day since 1978.

Obama is simply doing the bidding of his Muslim handlers to take away any attention from their barbarism.

Naw. Grandparents Day has been the first Sunday following Labor Day for over 30 years. There are plenty of legitimate things to slam Barry on without pointing a finger at this.

Folks, I bought my calander back in January. It has Sept 11 marked as Grandparents day. So lets not blame Obama for this one.

The people on this thread who are saying not to worry because it was always the second Sunday in September are not thinking too clearly. It will now be September 11 no matter what day of the week it falls on.

That is a big difference!

Thank you for the reminder.

Here's more

"There's a Grandparents Day song. A guy from Bad Axe, Michigan named Johnny Prill recorded "A Song for Grandma and Grandpa."

There's also the Christmas song Grandma Got Run Over By a Reindeer.

Even before that there was Spike Jones' Never hit you grandma with a shovel it could leave a bad impression on her mind.

Right on the mark and worth repeating.
