Palin's self-imposed deadline looms
The Hill ^ | 09/29/11 | Cameron Joseph

Former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin has not spoken to close allies in recent days and is set to break her own self-imposed deadline of the end of September to make a decision on a presidential run.

Becky Beach, Palin’s top fundraiser in Iowa and a close friend who is usually kept in the loop on the former governor’s plans, told The Hill that she had not heard from Palin in weeks about whether or not she would run in 2012.

“I don’t have any idea of her decision or her timing. The only thing I’ve heard her say is that the legal deadlines are the real deadlines, and I share her sentiment,” she said.

The deadline to get on the Utah primary ballot is Oct. 15, while the deadlines for many other states land on Oct. 31. In some states it can take weeks to gather petition signatures and get the paperwork ready to make sure candidates get on the ballot, meaning Palin is running out of time should she decide to run.

Palin indicated in a Fox News interview Tuesday that she might be leaning against a race.

“[For] somebody like me, is a title and is a campaign too shackling?” Palin said. “Does that prohibit me from being out there, out of a box, not allowing handlers to shape me and to force my message to be what donors or what contributors or what political pundits want it to be? Does a title take away my freedom to call it like I see it and to affect positive change that we need in this country? That’s the biggest contemplation piece in my process.”

Palin has slipped into single digits in numerous polls of potential Republican candidates since Texas Gov. Rick Perry got into the race, and many of the top Republican campaign operatives have already been scooped up. It looks increasingly unlikely that she will run for president.

But Beach said that if Palin does decide to run she could still be a formidable candidate.

“I think it’s going to be so unconventional if she decides to run a few weeks aren’t going to matter one way or the other. If she decides to run the enthusiasm will be there, I don’t think she’s going to be handicapped [by the timing].”

Spokesmen from Palin’s political action committee did not return repeated calls for comment.

She has till October 1st and then I will be on the Cain Train.

Great, does that mean if she decides after that to run, you will stay on the Cain Train?

I’ll be damned. I have heard rumors of that but thought it was BS. There are no set rules as far as I know other than report the totals to the state whey you’re done. It’s pretty laid back.

For Iowa it’s starting to get late in the game if you’re going to be organizing for someone. I’ll have to switch for Cain and if she comes in later hope the best for her.

She is playing a game of chicken with the GOP. Not only will she have to battle the Dems, she’s got an immediate battle with the establishment GOP on her hands.

No guts. The establishment isn't going away. If she can't keep her own set deadline, folks should forget her game playing and pick someone else.

Four more years, here we come.

You really want an Obama second term? Because that is what a 3rd party of any size will get you.

Yeah, that rhetoric worked in 2008 and so I went ahead and voted for McCain. Never again will I vote for a slower-acting poison. I'm not a Republican, I'm a conservative and I have conservative principles that I'm tired of comprimising.

“But If Sara doesn’t jump in, most of her supporters will pick Cain.”

I personally feel that a Palin/Cain ticket would clean house. If Cain is OK with that, I think she will run. Otherwise, I think she will throw her full support behind Cain.

If she isn’t running, then why wait to announce that it’s so?

To keep the ones who are running leaning to the right out of fear?

I don’t get it.

I still think she’ll run.

No rush for her to get in. The only people pressing her is the media. Remember that she is not going to do things by the book. If three million people that follow her on facebook contributed 100.00 what does that come out to! Talk about a war chest! She doesn’t need the RNC or any other big Republican donors. Take that Rove.

I believe she has made her decision, and I also KNOW she is not a serial liar as you say...so there.

Tonight when asked by the Judge in a lengthy question about her self imposed deadline (as he called it)...Sarah said simply, I hold my political cards pretty close to my vest...that is the answer.

One does not need to hold their political cards close to their vest if they are not running.

Sarah is not a liar in any way shape or form!
