WASHINGTON (AP) A Democratic congressman compared the NCAA to the Mafia over how it controls the lives of student athletes.
"I think they're just one of the most vicious, most ruthless organizations ever created by mankind," Illinois Rep. Bobby Rush said of the NCAA at a congressional forum on college sports Tuesday. "I think you would compare the NCAA to Al Capone and to the Mafia."
Rush made the accusations at the forum called to look at the impact of "back-room deals, payoffs and scandals" in college sports.
The NCAA declined to respond to Rush's comments.
The congressman spoke after hearing from a couple of mothers of former student-athletes who complained of ill treatment by schools after their sons suffered injuries.

I know Coach Bobby Knight didn’t like them too much. The ironic thing is the IU President Myles Brand that fired him ended up becoming the NCAA CEO and he was a big pusher concerning the Indian names and monikers - their banning that is !
Myles Brand was a pompous jackass IMHO, both at IU and the NCAA.
Definitely agree especially being from Indiana - gone since 1995. IU Bk-ball hasn’t been the same since ! I basically quit watching it after Coach Knight was fired. It was a railroad job on him !
I also have seen occasional views into IU Assembly Hall and Coach was right, there are all sorts of ads posted inside and that was one of his predictions when he gave his go-away speech.
