OAKLAND: Council member wants no-confidence vote on Quan

Oakland City Councilman Ignacio De La Fuente said Thursday that he intends to seek a no-confidence vote in Mayor Jean Quan for her handling of the Occupy Oakland camp.

The vote would be largely symbolic, but De La Fuente said it was one of the few ways the council could apply pressure on Quan.

"She has screwed up this situation so bad, the city is suffering the consequences," said De La Fuente, Quan's most frequent critic on the council. "There is no confidence in this mayor to take action, because she can't."

De La Fuente said he had wanted a vote to be held Tuesday, the council's last scheduled meeting of November. But the matter must first be scheduled by the council's Rules Committee, whose meeting Thursday was canceled because it was a city furlough day.

Typically weak Kalifornia bs...we can’t do anything because it would hurt Oakland’s image...really. Oakland has been a government run slum for 30 years. What image is left to be hurt.

For some reason, this reminds me of the words of Minoru Yamasaki, the architect of the Pruitt-Igoe housing project in St. Louis. Those housing structures were inexorably turned into ruins by their occupants; when asked to comment, Yamasaki lamented "I never thought people were that destructive."

Don't know why that came to mind, except perhaps that Yamasaki is of Oriental descent, like Mayor Quan.

Get real. How could anyone possibly hurt the city’s well deserved reputation for being a failure just one step up from Detroit!

Ignacio De La Fuente,
Let me help you understand. You live in (and represent) a hopeless example of a city with no future. The soul of your community has been on the decline for so long it knows no glimmer of hope or ambition. While your effort to inject some sanity into the debate is laudable, it and you are meaningless.

Whoever is less of a commie is a hater. That's the only rule you'll ever need.
