Calif. Mayor Chooses Occupy Rally Over Veterans Day Memorial (Richmond)
The Blaze ^ | Movember 11, 2011 | Madeleine Morgenstern

Posted on 11/11/2011 12:46:30 PM PST by yoe

The mayor of Richmond, Calif. plans to skip her city’s Veterans Day memorial events to attend an Occupy rally, a choice that’s prompting anger and criticism.

Mayor Gayle McLaughlin will miss a Veterans Day salute Friday in favor of an Occupy Richmond “public speak out,” the San Jose Mercury News reported.

McLaughlin defended her decision, telling the newspaper that the city is not sponsoring the Veterans Day event, and the rally she will attend will honor Scott Olsen, the Iraq war veteran injured at an Occupy Oakland rally last month. Richmond and Oakland, both in the San Francisco Bay Area, are about 12 miles apart.

“I choose to honor our veterans, not only on Veteran’s Day, but daily, by supporting an end to military warfare to prevent further fighting and dying in needless wars,” she said in an email. “I am a strong supporter of Veterans for Peace and Iraq Vets Against the War.”

For too many decades and counting, all U.S. cities have been competing for the title of “Most Leftist”.

This is why I laugh whenever I hear a libtard say she “supports the troops.”

With today’s reality TV “heroes” doesn’t she think Clymers are honored enough year round? I guess Vets only getting one day is too much for her.

McLaughlin filed for bankruptcy in 2003 to avoid paying more than $100,000 in student loans and other forms of debt.

I wasn't aware that student loans could be claimed in bankruptcy filings.

‘Twas not that way in New York, I am happy to say. I was feeling that times had really changed, especially for the Vietnam vets, who suffered so much in earlier decades. Sorry to hear what you say about Boston.

The citizens of Richmond, Calif should recall this Socialist nit ASAP!

Like that's going to happen. She was doing what exactly what her constituents want. We're talking California here, the land of Boxer and Pelosi. She'd lose the next election if she wasn't out doing crap like this. I'm not condoning it, but that's how it is and it's why you or I would have a better chance of dating an A-list celebrity than getting elected there.

Oh yeah, but the libs are busy dumping on our past efforts in WWII, too. They’re on a big kick about how the bombing of Dresden and other German cities were such atrocities. None of them care that Hitler FORCED ruthless action against Germany.

The libs are also going on and on about how terrible the nuclear bombing of Hiroshima and Nagasaki were. They’re mentally incapable of realizing that, if the axis had won the war, all of America would’ve been in concentration camps that would make Auschwitz look like Disney Land.

Who could possibly desire a more admirable resume than:

"McLaughlin graduated summa cum laude from Bridgewater State College in Massachusetts. She continued her education with two years of graduate study in psychology at Rhode Island College, with additional graduate study in education at U.C. Berkeley Extension."

Leading up to:

" McLaughlin has worked as a postal clerk, teacher, caregiver for the elderly, and tutor/clinician for children with learning disabilities. She has also worked in the capacity of support staff for various not-for-profit health and educational organizations.

And then:

" According to published reports, McLaughlin filed for bankruptcy in 2003 to avoid paying more than $100,000 in student loans and other forms of debt. "

Surprising that Barry hasn't tapped her to be Czar of something or another...

Local Government can’t keep letting the protesters get away with these things — to block access to public property to people they pretend to represent... What about the Poor and the Homeless Veterans they purport to want to help. Shutting down a celebration of our veterans is anti-community.

Another topic I feel compelled to mention: The Health and Sanitation at most of these Occupy Camps are starting to be a serious threat to Public Health — another thing they purport to want to improve.

At the Occupy Atlanta Camp the protesters have started to become ill with Infectious Drug-Resistant Tuberculosis. The risks are also very high at this point of outbreaks of Dysentary, Cholera, Typhus, not to mention the likelihood of Flu Outbreaks among the OWS crowd/camps in the coming weeks. I guess we’re lucky they’re close to the CDC, eh?

Who thought that in 2011 we would be seeing a group of people living in tents in the inner cities and as a result would see camp living conditions unlike we’ve seen since the Civil War? They’ll probably all come down with “Camp Fever”!

There are also risks inherent in the colder climes of people dying of exposure whether due to Concurrent Health Problems, or simple drunken and/or drugged carelessness, or through crime.

I would be content to let Nature do what it does if these people are ignorant enough to stay in that kind of environment (provided small children are not being put at unnecessary risk). However, these diseases are infectious and in the case of a cluster it can easily be passed outside the camp itself into the general population.

The more people are exposed, the more people will become infected and spread it from there. This is a rather serious issue, and one I hope the normal people among OWS supporters will recognize this and convince their friends that this isn’t a smart plan of attack - if children start dying of 3rd world diseases and it started in these camps people are NOT going to listen to anything you’re saying.

All JMHO. Honestly, I don’t WANT to see people dying in the streets - basically committing suicide by refusing to protect themselves from themselves. The police won’t have to do a thing because everyone will be too busy being sick to do anything but lay down. And most especially I don’t want a group of rebellious people who act like children and encourage violence causing illnesses that could take our children from us.

What dereliction of duties on the part of local authorities and the media who all gloss over the nasty little details you listed.

Community leaders are pandering for votes and the media seems more concerned with their alleged “plight” as the weather gets colder, the surrounding business people get angrier and the demonstraters themselves become more violent and deranged.

Sometimes I just can’t believe the times we’re living in and the aberrant thought processes that rule the day.
