‘to be used against American citizens’? Why do I feel like I don’t have a dog in this hunt?

While I agree that we are turning our policemen into soldiers, which is a very bad idea, I didn’t see anything other than normal crowd control tactics used against the OWS clowns.

I’ve been saying for years the second amendment is a joke.

We are only “allowed” to own 100 year old technology and only the small stuff...but the cops get whatever they want. THAT IS NOT A WELL REGULATED MILITIA YOU IDIOTS.

..more than $500 million of military gear to U.S. police forces in 2011 alone...fight terrorism and drugs, but despite a 40-year low in violent crime, police are snapping up hardware like never before...

If it's worked for police departments... against criminals, the new stuff should be given to the Border Patrol... might help with the "illegals" problem.

Let’s see; The gubmut, under threat of law, steels our money through excessive taxation in the name of defense of the nation to buy more killing equipment than it needs and then transfers much of that surplus hardware to the local PDs. That clearly subverts the intent of the Constitution’s principle. If the hardware is deemed as surplus and still works, then the funding for new hardware needs to be cut equivalently to that surplus. Jackbooted and dressed to kill pumps the PDs testosterone but can and probably will kill US citizens. What the PDs need are officers like Andy Taylor and Barney Fife!

This is not a good policy.

It is a back door tactic to circumvent the intent of the Posse Comitatus Act.

Think about the news reports of SWAT teams busting into houses and shooting people 50, 70, 100 times.

If they have military weaponry and train to use it they will eventually fabricate a reason to try it out.

...that allows it to invade almost wherever it likes at will.

Gee, a little bias - ya think? Fool should read the constitution. The Military doesn't decide who its going to invade

Lovely. Just what we need: turning our police into the military. More of government (at every level) at war with citizens...

“We cannot continue to rely on our military in order to achieve the national security objectives that we’ve set. We’ve got to have a civilian national security force that’s just as powerful, just as strong, just as well-funded.” Barack Hussein Obama, 7/2/2008

They don’t call it a Civil Defense force, that would imply we need (or perhaps deserve) defense.

The official name is National Civilian Community Corps.

I think of it as the NATCCC, or simply the NATCs...

At the same time they are moving to disarm us, the Department of Homeland Security, along with Obama’s allies at the higher levels of all government agencies are takinig steps to convert a “soft” tyranny into what the Venezuelans and other are facing.

A dedicated, well-armed corps of law-enforcement personnel capable of smashing ANY discontent on ANY side of a political issue - but most especially OURS.

Not that the libs should feel secure. Hitler had his Roehm purge.

This is very frightening. I have far more confidence in our military not to fire on American citizens than I do on law-enforcement personnel.

assault rifles, helicopters, armored vehicles, and grenade launchers ...

If you think your dog is in danger from being shot by the police now... just wait.

The implication here is a coup d'état against the United States by those in governmental authority?

And that it is going apace right out in the open for everyone to see, which is the best place to hide anything?

And which party controlled Congress in 1997...?
