After winning the Florida primary, GOP presidential nominee hopeful Mitt Romney explains to CNN anchor Soledad O'Brien that he is focused on a particular portion of the American population in his campaign. Romney says, "I'm not concerned about the very poor. We have a safety net there. If it needs a repair , I'll fix it. I'm not concerned about the very rich.... I'm concerned about the very heart of America, the 90-95 percent of Americans who right now are struggling."

I like to fire people.
I don’t care about the poor.

Sure, these statements sound slightly better in the context in which they were actually spoken, but these just come across as a parody of what a heartless, greedy Republican would want to say.

Mitt is a buffoon. Worse than McCain. Worse than Dole.

Like it or not, the poor don’t do much for the economy. The middle class and the rich are the ones who do, and they help the poor.

Honestly, I agree with the premise, but what does he have in mind? If it is enslaving the “middle income” people to government programs, he can go F himself.

An ironic slap in the face of the Freepers who claim Romney is just another liberal.

You can't accuse Myth of being both a liberal and a heartless capitalist who likes to fire people.

Well, he’s trying to appeal to a large segment of middle class voters who feel just that way - that the poor and rich have no real problems under our current system and the middle class is getting screwed. His problem is that he is relying on the MSM not to twist his message...and we all know how well that works.

I understand what he was trying to say. Unfortunately he just handed the dims a goldmine of a clip to use against him. Assuming, of course, he survives long enough to get the nomination.

Here’s hoping Newt (or Santorum) can capitalize on this. Only wish he had uttered this a few days befor the FL primary.

If the dumbest of newsreaders gets him to twist this bad.. Newt should do well. The guy simply doesn’t have a clue.

Rest assured that these clips will be strung together in union SuperPAC and DNC ads, and the Romney supporters will wonder why their candidate can’t win.

It's really hard for me to believe after all his years of preparing to run for president, Willard hasn't learned how to speak intelligently to reporters.

Is it possible he's not even as smart as Mr. Soetero?

This is one reason why Romney will lose. He is far out of touch.

But don’t worry, he’ll pull a McCain and by the end of the campaign he’ll be reassuring Republicans that Obama is a good man who will be a good President. You guys remember McCain doing that, right?

Agree. Cracks me up, the reflection upon the GOP by their standard bearer. Their guy just made the GOP appear to be just what the Democrats have been saying the GOP is all along when in fact the ones that really don’t care about the poor, or anybody actually but themselves are the Dems, and this truly says what Romney really is.
