CHESTERFIELD, N.J.A dump truck collided with a bus carrying elementary schoolchildren on Thursday, killing an 11-year-old daughter of a state trooper and critically injuring three other students -- two of them the triplet sisters of the dead girl, authorities said.
The accident occurred just after 8 a.m. at a four-way intersection in Chesterfield, a town south of Trenton. It sent the bus, which was carrying 25 students, crashing sideways into a traffic signal pole, crumpling the side. Police said 17 students received injuries, most of them minor.

Just curious why “NJ Trooper” is in the headlines? I don’t see where parental employment, ethnic background or politics should enter into it when someone’s children are killed. That’s the way I look at it.
How heartbreaking. Prayers for all, esp the trooper and his family.
Can’t imagine their pain. Prayers.
I understand why it was in the headline. It makes it different for many. It does not mean it is a lesser tragedy for non law enforcement. It just is different for alot of people. Not more or less..just different.
Prayer indeed.
I wonder if Gov Christie will have the flag at half staff for this little girl (don’t bet on it!)
Regardless, the trooper/father is in a world of hurt right now. This morning he had three health 11 year old children. Now he has one dead child, and two seriously injured children.
Sigh..I am going to go outside and gnaw a post.
Almost reminded me of the Sullivans from WWII. I sometimes think it would be best for family members NOT to travel together.
It is going to be difficult for the other two kids. They must have been all sitting together on the bus.
in order to not bring your statement up to even basic intelligence, I'll not comment on the stupidity of what you wrote.
I second your comment!
In all my years of driving I have personally noticed that dump truck drivers tend to speed and run stop signs more than any other class of driver.Dump truck drivers also “bend” the load weight rules. All these thing are part of their making money because the more gravel, dirt, coal or whatever they move in a day then the more they get paid.Their employers typically don’t care if the dump truck drivers are breaking road rules as long as the stuff get hauled.(I’ve scaled a lot of trucks and dump trucks are way more likely to be overweight and over axle limts.)
And that with the change from school buses being driven by owner-operators on route contracts in my school days to today’s school corporation or school bus service companies which happen to use a much, much higher proportion of women drivers ,that those drivers act as though they OWN the road and they push the right-of-way at all times. Plus discipline is said to be worse on buses than in my school days.
Anyway, two groups of arrogant drivers is a recipe for disaster.
"A boy being taken from the scene by his mother told The Associated Press "this big truck just came and slammed right into us." The mother did not want the boy's name used."
