DRUDGE HEADLINE, POLE: Romney Surges in OHIO....
Drudge Report ^ | Today | Not listed

The Republican Primary race in Ohio is one of the biggest prizes on Super Tuesday, and it’s now a tossup.

The latest Rasmussen Reports telephone survey of Likely Primary Voters in Ohio, taken last night, shows former U.S. Senator Rick Santorum attracting 33% of the vote and Mitt Romney earning 31%. That’s a significant tightening of the race. Two weeks ago, Santorum led Romney by 18 percentage points.

Former House Speaker Newt Gingrich is now in third place with 15% of the vote, and Texas Congressman Ron Paul runs last with 11% support. Two percent (2%) prefer another candidate, and eight percent (8%) remain undecided. (To see survey question wording, click here.)

If it’s a two-man race, Santorum and Romney are tied at 43% each. That, too, represents a huge change. Two weeks ago, Santorum led Romney by 28 points in a head-to-head matchup in Ohio.

Romney’s gains in Ohio mirror his surge nationwide following victories Tuesday in the Arizona and Michigan primaries. The former Massachusetts governor now leads Santorum among Likely GOP Primary voters nationwide by a 40% to 24% margin.

It's obvious to us Newt supporters, that Newt is sitting stagnant at the moment. And with only 4 days to go before Super "T", it appears that a Brokered Converntion is a very big possibility.

I'm OK with that. It would be our best chance to start a 3rd party around Newt and Sarah Palin. Call it the Tea Party........

Ohio is not a winner-take-all state. If it’s a near tie and the delegates to be divided evenly, will the Ohio GOP step in and break the rules to give Mitt the advantage?

Again, as I said before:

Down to the wire, Santorum will get 35% from conservative-leaning branch of Republican party; Romney 35% from liberal-leaning branch; Newt 20% from pragmatic-branch ( less idealist or more forgiving); 10% for Ron Paul from free-spirited young or distrusting-government-no-matter-what).

At brokered convention, two front runners will be tossed out, and the nominee will be everyone’s guess. My guess is the formidable, most fearsome, most eloquent, most intelligent, most Constitutional, and for cheap-gas, NEWT!

No, it’s spelled “poll” at the site. Took a few seconds to find as it’s NOT a headline and I had to force my fingers to scroll past the picture of Michelle Malkin at the top (Yummmm!).

Santorum got too far ahead of himself, stumbled, and let his mouth do him in.

Gingrich has settled back to the mid-teens — about where he was for the months before Cain’s demise.

It seems more and more inevitable that Romney is going to pull this one out, unless Santorum can come up with a few surprises in the fly-over states in the coming weeks.

Maybe the combo of Santorum and Gingrich can garner enough delegate votes to stop Romney. However, the division of delegates will soon end, as more states will be winner-take-all. [I am not exactly sure of who the GOP has those divided up.]

The use of the verb ‘SURGE’ should be confined to the voters - not the polls or the candidates.

On the Third Party idea. Newt needs to head up a movement of bright young candidates for State and National elections. He should not use TEA Party because he would be accused of usurping the name and opportunism - Constitutional or Conservative Party perhaps. It would take money and organization of enormous effort at the grass roots, but Newt is such a leader to motivate and inspire true conservatives. Even to the point where Newt does not run for POTUS again, but as Party Chair develops candidates with excellent qualifications and four years of national exposure, speeches etc., State Governors would be a good pool of prospects.

They already have it set up. Three districts have denied other candidates because they claim they didn’t have enough signatures.

So Ohio is ready for the tip to Romney.

I think you’ll find that FReepers don’t really care how corrupt the party is as long as their guy isn’t the one getting the crappy end of the stick. Its much easier to run with the media narrative and help destroy the other guy.
