Santorum Suggests Obama Preferable to "Etch-A-Sketch" Romney.

Rick Santorum's latest attempt to use a Mitt Romney aide's "Etch-A-Sketch" remark against the Republican front-runner instead gave his rival a chance to fire back on Thursday, after Santorum seemed to say he'd rather see President Obama reelected than send Romney to the White House.

Speaking at an event in Texas, Santorum again made the case that Romney spokesman Eric Fehrnstrom's comments Wednesday on CNN about a "reset" of the campaign if Romney clinched the nomination showed the former Massachusetts governor's efforts to appeal to conservatives were insincere.

"You win by giving people the opportunity to see a different vision for our country, not someone who's just going to be a little different than the person in there," Santorum told a crowd in San Antonio, according to NBC News. "If you're going to be a little different, we might as well stay with what we have instead of taking a risk with what may be the Etch-A-Sketch candidate of the future."

...is there anything else our guys can do to seem even more out of touch with the 21st century?

I looked for inspiration on your Freeper homepage; but alas; all I found was:

Ten Most Harmful Books of the 19th and 20th Centuries

Newt is mathematically out of it.

I think it depends on the math, and who's doing it.

I don't doub that they listen to their church on matters of faith (as do most poeple), but any insinuation that their political stands are directed by the Mormon Church is just buried by objective evidence to the contrary.

There's absolutely NO comparison -- power-wise -- to what 1 or 2 senators or Congressmen can accomplish...vs. THE leader of the free world.

(did I really need to point out something so Captain Obvious?)

... the rise in leaving the LDS church is proof the LDS church is ‘true’ because it is fulfilling a prophecy of Joseph Smith.

Aside from the MittRick debate... Etch-a-Sketch???

Must we keep using stereotypical "grandpa" cultural references that people under 40 have never even heard of?

Between barbs like this and the "I Love Lucy" chocolate Episode reference, is there anything else our guys can do to seem even more out of touch with the 21st century?

we could all wear sweater vests and lots more polyester... btw, I still don't what the heck "I Love Lucy" or a chocolate episode is...

Santorum’s comments are red meat for the left. The campaign for the Republican presidential nomination should only center on obama’s complete failures as a president, commander-in-chief and diplomat.

There are innumerable issues that can and should be focused upon rather than contending that we should retain obama and allow him to completely destroy our culture and nation.

Mitt is NOT my personal choice for the nomination, but if he gets it, I will rally around him for the sake of our country and her future.

EODGUY

Newt has been saying that for a long time now, especially in the debates, when the moderators would try to get the repubs to fight amongst themselves. He'd remind everyone what the goal was and should always be - Bye bye Barack.

I, too, plan to vote for Romney if I must. But I still have faith a lot can happen between then and now.

GO NEWT!!!!

While there is some truth to this, I dont appreciate Republican POTUS candidates endorsing Obama. That is not their job.

That thought shouldn't even exist in their hearts or mind. When Santorum gets desperate, he will say anything. He did similar stuff to Newt, his mentor.

Although I certainly do NOT favor Romney, I would still vote for him against Obama.

(Hey...I understand...there were still some "Whigs at heart" even as the Whig party evaporated for good).

Look the GOP right now has only 29% of all registered voters.

If Romney is nominated, who knows what % will be left. I know I'm leaving the GoP if that happens & so will hundreds of thousands of others...

If I wanted to push somebody way to the left of John F. Kennedy & Lyndon Johnson, I would have considered the Dems long ago.

People are just too short-sighted if they only have Obama on the brain. He's only eligible for 4 years. But a Romney nomination = a GoP that has lost its bearings and no longer represents ANY semblance of a conservative constituency beyond the next four years..there'll be nothing "conservative" left to conserve...it'll have all gone by the wayside in the establishment.

A residual GoP -- with less than 20% of all voters after 2012...won't be worth propping up.

Slay the dragon and be done with it.

From 1830-1850, the Dems had a segment of the party called the Barnburners. They figured the only way to get rid of the rats in the barn was to burn it down. They failed. And now the Demo'rats are nothing but rats.

It's taken over 150 years, but now the GoP is at that same juncture. If Romney's nominated, the barn needs a burning...and if fellow FREEPERs refuse to address the rats, that's all the party will soon be...and certainly in any interim, that's all who will be in control.

(How many posters have said: "Anybody but Obama." It wouldn't matter if their candidate is the anti-Christ to them. It wouldn't matter if their candidate is a reincarnated Hitler to them. It wouldn't matter if the candidate promised millions to shed their blood on the altar of the abortion industry. They don't care. They have no real standards. They have no real convictions other than the basic "anti-Obama" conviction. They themselves are RINOs in sheep's clothing. They are like the crowd @ Christ's crucifixion, "Give us Barabbus" -- Barabbus being a murderer...but they didn't care, because the crowd was so anti-Christ. Here, the crowd is so anti-Obama, they cry for their Barabbus)

You enjoying your Obama $5 gas, 5 trillion in debt it piled on us ,illegals it let in etc? you do realize that money has to be paid back so we are living in the matrix now built on debt not reality? Keep campaigning for Obama the more you do the more it makes want to vote against Obama. sure Oracle. Nobody could be worse than Obama , or what it has done to America.Obama will increase his attacks on America because it knows it won’t have to face another election.Obama will destroy the U.S. because it won’t be facing reelection.

If the Congress, especially the House, actually DID their job; I’d vote for the ass-clown just to make sure the GOP-e would crash and burn. They haven’t done SH!T to block ANYTHING TOTUS had thrown at us!

As it stands, just getting ‘your/our guy’ into the White House doesn’t roll back ONE regulation, close ONE dept. They all love gov’t; as long as they control the direction.

Nobody in the field is a Washington outsider nor anyone I’d trust to shrink the beast.

Re shrinking the beast... Not even Newt?

Epic FAIL. Desperation, thy name is SANTORUM.

In Pennsylvania, they used to say Santorum was entering the fear and crazy portion of his campaign, when he started getting desperate and saying things 10 times over before moving onto another subject...

...it's the year 2036...

...the "ReReformed GoP" party has a candidate to the left of Obama...and we have the kids of these FReepers -- the Freepers who now post "anybody is better than Obama"...

...They'll come online to clamor "anybody is better than the Democrat"...

...and they'll push the guy who's to the left of Obama!!!

Guess what! The humble Etch-A-Sketch has a modern application:

Etch A Sketch HD for iPad http://itunes.apple.com/us/app/etch-a-sketch-hd-for-ipad/id397537481?mt=8

But I get your point. We remain the hopelessly uncool party. I’m not sure we’re even qualified to be called a party.

I’m under 40; in my early 30’s to be more precise. I know exactly what an etch-a-sketch is.

I don’t go around asking, but I’m willing to bet most voters younger than me also know what an etch-a-sketch is, too.

We don't need to love Santorum, he loves himself far too much. He is not the sharpest knife in the drawer. My dad was a smart man, he would always say, “beware of the man that thinks he knows it all, that is a stupid man”. Santorum is a spoiled brat, someone needs to take him behind the woodshed. Then put him on the next bus home. He only cares for himself and will say anything to advance his standing.

Oh, really???

Again, some people just hate Santorum.

Must we keep using stereotypical "grandpa" cultural references that people under 40 have never even heard of?

A Romney adviser used the term, thus the reason Romney is being linked to it.

And, because Romney is now linked to the Etch-a-Sketch, Etch-a-Sketches are now being sold and loved by a whole new generation.

Mormonism is a political animal. Here is just ONE example of the LDS church using influence to pass legislation. There are more and what makes anyone think they won't do it to Mitt Romney, esp in light of his temple oaths? To think that the LDS church won't force Mitt to do things to help them is naive at best.

The LDS sent a group of US senators to Switzerland to try to get an exemption just for the LDS church to their new missionary policies.

http://www.deseretnews.com/article/700091651/No-more-US-Mormon-missionaries-to-be-allowed-in-Switzerland.html

A group of 14 U.S. senators and representatives — including LDS members such as Sen. Orrin Hatch R-Utah, Sen. Bob Bennett R-Utah, Sen. Harry Reid D-Nevada, Sen. Mike Crapo R-Idaho and Rep. Jim Matheson D-Utah – recently appealed to the Swiss government to rethink its restrictions against Mormon missionaries.

This is an article on the LDS church influencing legislation regarding illegal aliens.

"In order to allow the LDS Church to baptize and extend full membership, including calling illegal aliens to serve in voluntary positions, the Church asked U.S. Sen. Robert Bennett of Utah to quietly slip an amendment to the United States immigration act into an agriculture appropriations bill."

AND

"Thus, in 2011, many LDS legislators followed their faith leaders and passed legislation that benefits illegal aliens living in Utah despite strong personal convictions to the contrary and pressure from constituents to vote against the Church’s position.

A Utah state senator told a constituent that he was compelled to vote for SB288, which he philosophically opposed, because that was what the Church wanted him to do. (SB288 eventually became 3SHB116.)

Following final passage of 3SHB116, legislators reported that the Church wanted a bill that expressed compassion to the world and that the Church’s representatives on the Hill clearly asked legislators to vote for it.

When some legislators learned that their constituents had been told by public affairs officials that the Church was only providing information and not encouraging legislators to vote for illegal alien-friendly bills, the legislators responded that that was “an outright lie.”
