So the state has just passed the 100,000 concealed carry permit threshold. Does that mean people are buying more handguns?
You betcha. And then some.
Sure, a lot of the people applying for concealed carry permits already have guns. But the state Justice Department has seen record numbers of applications for background checks for gun buys, which hit 14,842 in February, the last month for which the agency supplied data. Thats more than double the 6,314 background checks in February 2011, which was up from the 4,994 background checks in 2010.
The states new concealed carry law may account for some of that. But other factors are also boosting the thirst for firearms.
I called Pt Firearms in Cross Plains to see how business was going, and what I was told surprised me. An employee there, who asked that I not use his name, told me that the gun dealership has seen sales go up 20 to 25 percent over last year, and handguns are only part of the boom.

This is why I don’t worry about the 450 million rounds DHS contracted to buy.
Americans buy more than that in one month.

Or the very real spectre of “Justice for Trayvon”.
You’re kidding, right?
Nope.I know that many want a firearm for personal protection and that's completely cool....both in my mind and in the opinion of the SCOTUS.But I live in a fairly safe area and almost never venture into unsafe areas so that's not an issue for me.I also know that many here are hunters but I've never been one so *that's* not an issue for me.However,*I*,like you, have a constitutional right to own one so I do it *just* to pi$$ off the likes of Sarah Brady.
Oh,BTW...I enjoy range firing as well and do so on occasion.Rifle range was the *only* part of BCT that I enjoyed...even though it was cold as hell (December in Kentucky, yuk!).
I carry because the state of TN let my son’s killer loose after only 14.5 years of a ROTTEN 20 yr plea bargain from 1st to 2nd, and he made threats to kill any who testified against him from jail. I had to fight for EVERY single day he served, starting 10 MONTHS after it took 2 yrs to do the ROTTEN plea bargain fought 5 more with FR’s help.
Which is why I never vote for bill gibbons, (r) for a dratted thing.
I watched about 2 minutes of an episode recently...something about the Yosemite supervolcano.I've seen documentaries about that supervolcano and get the distinct sense that anyone within 1000 miles of it when it goes off should just kiss their a$$es goodbye."Preparing" for it is *beyond* stupid.
I just added Steven Elbow as another reason to own firearms.
Good God.I've never had a loved one murdered (unless you count my 18 year old niece who was killed by a drunk driver) but, having worked for 20 years in a large hospital's ER,I've seen more murder victims...and loved ones of murder victims...than I care to count.Given your story it's fully understandable that you'd be tempted to blow away anyone who even looks funny at *you* or *any* member of your family.
Financial collapses, logistics problems, or energy shortages on the other hand I can see.
How many Mayans live in Madison Wisc?
