John Tierney was shocked? Now that’s a shocker!

When it comes to his racketeering brothers-in-law, U.S. Rep. Johnny “Pockets” Tierney has decided to go with the same defense Claude Rains used in “Casablanca.”
“I’m shocked, shocked to find that gambling is going on in here!”
At which point in the film a croupier hands Captain Renault a stack of cash and says, “Your winnings, sir.” That didn’t happen yesterday at the Hawthorne Hotel in Salem, but it might as well have, for all of Pockets’ believability.
He brushed off those statements last week from his jailbird in-laws that he’s “the biggest liar in the world.” And the reports of his knowledge of their multimillion-dollar gambling ring are mere “misperceptions” that are “misperceiving” the voters of the 6th Congressional District, who’ve sent more than one Democratic crook to Congress.
“I’m telling the truth,” Tierney kept saying. “They know me to be an honest person who tells the truth. ... I’m an honest person and I’m telling the truth.
The “truth” is, his wife grabbed $223,000 from her brothers. Oh, and she’s done federal time, and one brother just began his three-year bit while the other one remains on the lam from a 442-count indictment. Plus, Mrs. Tierney invoked “spousal privilege” when asked about her husband.
The solon very believably said he merely assumed that all the do-re-mi being funneled through their bank accounts was nothing more than gifts of gratitude from her bookie brothers. The press conference was held at the Hawthorne Hotel — the purchase of which once led to the misdemeanor federal conviction of a former Democratic congressman, Mike Harrington, as well as a $100,000 fine.
Harrington was succeeded by the first Pockets, Nicky Mavroules (D-Golden Banana). Nicky Pockets actually went to the can, in honor of which they hung the former Peabody mayor’s portrait in Peabody City Hall. It’s that kind of district, which is why John Tierney hasn’t already been ejected from Congress.
Visiting his in-laws’ multimillion-dollar gambling palace in Antigua, Tierney didn’t notice the big-screen TV’s, or the shady-looking guys on phones taking something called “action” — nothing at all suspicious, in other words.
“It seems to be a modest house,” he recalled yesterday.
So was Rick’s American Cafe.
Anyone expecting a Checkers-type speech from Tierney was disappointed. Being a moonbat means never having to say you’re sorry. Just ask the fake Indian.
Meanwhile, Robert Eremian continues the family bookmaking tradition in the Caribbean. Has he posted the line yet on his brother-in-law’s odds of being re-elected this fall?

Poss. formats for 101.7 and/or 1200 incl. Spanish, cons talk, liberal talk, Fox Sports (curr on 98.5 owned by CBS but CBS is to soon launch their own sports network. Clear Channel/Premiere syndicates Fox Sports. Kepp in mind Clr Chnl wants to “clear” (air) shows like Rush in Boston...and nationwide talk shows are finding FM homes.
For awhile Clr Chnl simulcast 1200 on the HD 2 of 107.9 but it was missing recently. Hmm.
