"The U.S. Navy's new class of carriers will be the first to go without urinals, a decision made in part to give the service flexibility in accommodating female sailors, the Navy says.
The change heralded by the Gerald R. Ford class of carriers – starting with the namesake carrier due in late 2015.
Omitting urinals lets the Navy easily switch the designation of any restroom – or head, in naval parlance – from male to female, or vice versa, helping the ship adapt to changing crew compositions over time.
Heads will be attached to berthing compartments. Currently, many sailors have to traverse a passageway between a berthing and a head.
Urinal drain pipes clog more than toilets and therefore can be smellier and costlier to maintain."
Poor Gerald Ford. Still can't get any respect. These new class of carriers should have Obama's name on every 'head.' Navy vet here just shaking his head - the one on my shoulders.

Non-story. Many newer ships were already sans urinals. Sea water clogs the smaller pipes too easily.

I see no reason to believe THIS piece of excrement from CNN over any other POS they excrete.
They also don’t have poop decks. Maybe they didn’t like the French origin of the word.
Procedures for number 1: Go topside, pee in a cup and toss piss over the side. Don’t let the XO see you.

it is obvious that these here so called “designers” have never had to pee in gale force seas........ what a bunch of blithering idiots..
although you could bolt a trough to the bulkhead, with downspouts emptying into the commodes....
just make sure to flush ALL the commodes when done....

SOOOOOOO! Who cleans the toilets sprayed all over and drenched in Urine from those who suck at aiming their magical wands? Thats one of the primary reasons for Urinals! STUPID! Teach the women to pee in them! It works!
Take one of those little plastic ketchup packets, fold it in half and place it, crimped ends in, between the seat bumpers and the bowl.
