Netanyahu's dangerous decision-making on Iran
Al-Jazeera ^ | 21 Aug 2012 | John Bell

Posted on 08/27/2012 9:07:22 PM PDT by BlackVeil

Israeli PM Netanyahu and his Defence Minister Ehud Barak may be on the verge of making a decision to attack Iran against the views of many in their own country and abroad. ... the Israeli leadership may feel compelled to act, because of its concerns regarding Iran's nuclear ambitions, and because rhetoric has boxed the leaders in: they either strike or look like they have been crying wolf. Of course, many view the noise from Israel as a ploy aimed at ensuring the preferred option: an American strike (and that ploy is working); however, many keen observers of Israel believe that Netanyahu and Barak are not only bluffing. In any case, they are creating an inflamed context where the likelihood of panic and error is rising on all sides.

The exact repercussions of an Israeli strike are unknown, but a Hezbollah counterattack from Lebanon, extended terror attacks globally, and troubles in the Persian Gulf are only some of the possibilities...The stark reality is that the Middle East is being held hostage not to Israel but to the minds of Benyamin Netanyahu and Ehud Barak - a very strange situation indeed when looked at soberly, and without the political assumptions that cloud our perceptions and make us accept what is basically not acceptable.

Ironically, Lebanon itself has another version of this hostage situation: Hezbollah has preserved the right to strike Israel when it wishes ... Both Hezbollah and the two leaders of Israel comfort themselves that they are heroes; they do not question their own virtue. Indeed, their monopoly on what is right is such that that they need no one else's permission for their actions. They do not doubt whether they will end up on the right side of history.

Uh... let’s see...

1. Iran is developing nuclear weapns.

2. Iran has acquired advanced missiles capable of carrying nuclear weapons.

3. Iran has said that as soon as the nuclear weapons are ready, they’ll use them on Israel.

Yes, looks to me like Israel has some genuine worries there, and if anyone’s making “dangerous decisions” it’s definitely Iran.

Absolute BS. My thinking is the entire World is already being extorted by Iran and North Korea. If Western civilization doesn't stop them now, we will see America and/or it's allies nuked at some point. I guaran-damn-tee it!

Israel is truly in a bind. A nuclear armed Iran, unafraid and unimpeded is a perennial threat to Israel’s very existence. The German Jewish leadership once tragically underestimated the nazi threat. Netanyahu is determined never ever to make the same strategic mistake. Yet most Israelis realize they simply do not have the capability to permanently stop the Iranian madness. A creative Israeli attack at best will only delay Iran’s nuclear development. The war will be costly and prolonged. Even if the United States is engaged, the results will not be much different unless a massive invasion of Iran is undertaken. A war weary, economically weakened United States simply will not commit to such an invasion. In the end Israel may be forced to accept the thesis that the real intent of Iran’s nuclear program was to thwart any further invasions of the Shiite and Persian nation from its oil rich Sunni Arab neighbors. Iran and Israel will have to live with the terrifying nuclear peace of mutually assured destruction. American influence and involvement to the delight of China and Russia will begin to lessen.

The answer is very simple, simpleton article writer: Iran is producing the bomb; Iran says they will destroy Israel; Israel must act first to stay alive.

If I told the author I was going to shoot him and coming his way. Wouldn’t he shoot me as I was approaching him?
Idiot!

If the religious leaders of Iran are killed and their navy is completely destroyed plus most of the military, then Iran would take decades to start a nuclear program again.

I think it would be a good decision for Netanyahu move on Iran before the election. Zer0 would be forced to give aid or face the wrath of the American voter. It also puts a focus on Zer0’s failure to stop Iran’s progress towards nuclear capability.

An indicator of something beginning to happen is this news that the carrier task force headed by U.S. Navy aircraft carrier USS John C. Stennis is now rushing to the Persian Gulf. See the article:

GO ISRAEL!

Don't rely on BathHouse Barry to help.
Don't blame us, we aren't the ones who took him out of the BathHouse and put him in the White House. If it were up to us, he would be in the "Big House". (Federal Prison)

I hope that they wait until after Nov. 6 and then blow Iran into hell. I just don’t want Obama to have an International Crisis to “rally America behind him”. Any ideas, anyone, on how this could affect the Prez Election?

On various threads, people have wondered about that point you raise - how would a strike on Iran affect Obama and his campaign? A lot view it as a plus for Obama - he can be a war-time leader, and all that. Some even suggest he is willing to “wag the dog” and use Iran as an excuse, to boost his chances.

But others say that Obama would be disadvantaged, and also that the economic issues would then rise against him.
