Source of Strange Jobs Numbers: Obama's August Reprieve to 1,800,000 16-30 Year Old Illegals?

In June, President Obama issued an executive order permitting the 16 to 30 year old children of illegal immigrants to remain in the US without fear of deportation. The move affected some 1.8 million young adults, all apparently, of working age.

According to the order, beginning in mid-August all of these young people would have unimpeded access to jobs, and that access would be renewable every other year.

Reports of the progress of Obama's program have stated that lines have been long and that applications have been plentiful.

Since these young people were all of an age when they are eligible to work, and since the program required them to have been in the country for at least 5 years, it is not illogical to suppose that many of them were already working in some covert manner. Additionally, since they would be granted work privileges, it is reasonable to suppose that the many who were already working simply had their current jobs sanctified and accepted.

Now above board, these potential 1.8 million jobs would suddenly just "show up" in numbers when they could not have been admitted to previously.

Many have been puzzled by the sudden appearance in Friday's jobs report of nearly 900,000 jobs from no where. Likewise, there's been head scratching over 600,000 part time jobs suddenly opening up.

Could Obama's illegal immigrant reprieve be the source of the jobs that has everyone puzzled? Could not a covert job that had been granted government blessing in mid-August suddenly show up unexpectedly in September jobs numbers?

And finally, for discouraged workers who could not find jobs, would this not suggest that America's approximately 13 million illegal immigrants are having an impact on discouraged workers' ability to find a job?

I’d been puzzling over the jobs numbers and thinking of any sudden influx of workers, and the Obama reprieve seemed to fit the bill.

Not possible. Around 90,000 of these illegal “Dreamers” have applied for the 2-year amnesty and work permits. But only 29 have so far been approved. So there is no way they could be part of the stats.

I did not catch the spike in 20-24 year olds.

If you find that link, I’d like to see it.

Is it in the household data tables?

That would make it far less likely, wouldn’t it?

An alternative would have to do with the household data being by survey.

Perhaps these folks were now willing to admit on a survey that they held jobs when formerly they weren’t will to do so....figuring they would now qualify for legal status.

Obama’s fudged jobs numbers are just BS based on democrat math. An under-the-table job doesn’t suddenly become on the table job because the employee is no longer technically illegal. Ann Barnhardt and others predicted months ago the unemployment number would go under 8% before the election by hook or crook no matter what the truth really was. They have kept shrinking the workforce number and fudging other numbers towards that end for a while now.

I know this sound stupid, but could Obama have used the fact that school is back in session? That would add quite a few people to the numbers.

They use anything and everything- part time, temp jobs...like using temporary seasonal help as new hires. it’s just so much BS.

Interestingly I talked to a black guy at the Goodyear this morning while getting the oil changed. I didn’t gather he was any fan of Romney, but after the news showed a clip of Romney refuting the jobs number and saying it was really 11%, his response was what you would expect of a fairly normal rational person- they have 2 eyes and friends and family, and they know the situation is bad, and the numbers are not an encouragement. He simply felt things were not going to get better no matter who was president. Which I found interesting because it showed someone like that has no idea what drives the economy or how jobs are created. I tried to get in some points on big companies in a holding pattern over doubts of the future, and the difficulty of running a business with oppressive regulations. Conversation then turned to housing and it seemed we have both benefited from the slump and being able to afford a house we otherwise couldn’t (in my case being able to buy at all).

It was both encouraging that some are not be fooled by the fake numbers, but also discouraging that they either aren’t listening or don’t understand Republican/conservative economic proposals.
I don’t know if I was able to get him to think outside his bubble. If not- my guess is he won’t be voting if he thinks it doesn’t matter. Just a WAG of course.

I think I'd just mark it up to Obama not being afraid to lie about anything and everything if he thinks it is necessary.

I agree with what you’ve written. Nonetheless, I’m still puzzled at the source of all those numbers.
