Not until around Richard Nixons time did the South go Republican. Five states comprising the heart of the South were well ahead of the curve in 1964 by supporting Barry Goldwater. Even then, much of the South was rejecting slavery, instead embracing freedom and liberty by rejecting the Communist agenda of the DemonRATS:
Had the rest of the nation followed the lead of the South back in 1964, we'd be living in a far better world. Communism would have been conquered and Vietnam would be united as a pro-America country.

Goldwater did those southern states in 1964, but by 1968 all but South Carolina were taken away by George Wallace.
Then in 1972, Nixon grabbed almost everything including the south.
In ‘76, Carter got it.
Nixon didn’t take the South forever for the Republicans. I was wrong. I believe we took it after Carter until Clinton in ‘92

Although I agree with you about the country being in much better shape had Goldwater won in '64, I would really like for us not to accept the color scheme switch that the left has foisted upon us. Conservatives should not be associated with the color red. Red is for commies and commie sympathizers, like the Democrats. This Orwellian Doublespeak where conservatives are angry commie red and liberals are soothing blue must stop. I refuse to say I live in the Red state of Texas. I live in the true-blue state of Texas where we believe in the constitution and all things American.
