Well, its certainly a good training video for any idiot thinking of taking on an army of police and all the resources at their disposal.

Anyone who spent more than a year in the service at any level, much less a commissioned officer who was in a riverene unit, should be able to run circles around the average non-veteran police officer. But he's up against thousands of police.

any idiot that thinks he will be able to defend his houseA. They haven't got him yet. B. The best way to defend a fixed position is from outside the fixed position.

I doubt theyd be sure that he got away at this point. If theyre allowing fire trucks in they have his body.
Chances are they won't let firefighters in while they fear ammo cooking off and possible propane tanks blowing.
..add to that, they are probably more than happy to just contain the fire (which shouldn't be hard in an area with snow on the ground) and go in later and look for the bones.
He killed a decent local Sheriff's deputy on the way out and wounded another...that stinks.

Agreed but they said (albeit on CNN) that there was an exchange of gunfire from inside the cabin against tactical officers who had by then surrounded the cabin (after the deputies got shot). If that's they case it sounds like Dorner is now burnt toast.
Of course it's early and the story will likely change - who knows - Jessica Lynch may end up being the hero.

Pretty much...it might be quit the surprise when the entire neighborhood turns out for ‘mutual aid’.

Never fix your position. Never assault civilians. Work alone and work quietly.

I’ll bet the owner of the cabin is delighted as she watches it burn up on TV. Just as well. If the guy died and the cabin stood, then it would forever be known as the cabin of the shootout. Hope she has it insured.

I guess it never occurred to you those “idiots” aren’t planning to do it all by their lonesomes (eyeroll).

THe black smoke now coming from the cabin would indicate that POL is burning.
Before it was grey wood smoke. It will be a long time before they can sift the ashes for his remains.

Maybe not, if not insured. Yet you can bet there will be a lawsuit, and the taxpayers will have to foot the bill.

Especially when you know their habit of setting fire to said fixed positions. Don’t get me wrong, the POS needs killing, just commenting on LEO tactics

That isn’t the way we fight. Booby traps. Watch house from outside. neighbors join. We don’t have everything figured out,but just shooting into a horde of armed anything is just committing suicide. And, as Churchill said, fight anyway, even if you know you may lose, because living under tyranny is not an option.

He needed killing when he ambushed the innocents.
Everyone is carefully watching how the tactics on both sides play out.

Everything about this case stinks. The police killed, the police family killed, the innocent civilians attacked by police... The outcome of this is going to be ugly from every angle.

There was a basement at the cabin and he did fill some scuba tanks prior to his “evil escapades”. Could he be in the basement breathing from a tank? I would think the heat would be really bad. In all likelihood he is toast.

Impossible that ‘hundreds’ of rounds were fired...I’ve been told over and over by politicians and the press that we only need a few bullets to end an altercation.
