After prayer, the next step toward restoration of our Framer's vision must be repeal of the 17th Amendment.

The impasse Franklin spoke of was representation in the Senate. Were the States to be proportionally represented by population or two each? There was no question the States would participate and provide a vertical separation of powers just as important as the horizontal separation of judicial, legislative and executive.

Popular election of Senators was never seriously considered; it was certain to lead to an all powerful, consolidated government.

Unless this nation returns to God, it is doomed.

Even before the Constitution, the Declaration of Independence invokes God and declares that the fundamental rights of life liberty and the pursuit of happiness are God given.

"And have we now forgotten that powerful friend? Or do we imagine that we no longer need his assistance? I have lived ... a long time, and the longer I live the more convincing proofs I see of this truth -- that God governs in the affairs of men."

Gee... I keep hearing from the secular statists that Ben was a Deist. His plea doesn't fit with deism doctrine...

And one more comment, isn't it comforting that someone the stature of Franklin, possibly our most important founder (with G. Washington), said:

"And have we now forgotten that powerful friend? Or do we imagine that we no longer need his assistance? I have lived ... a long time, and the longer I live the more convincing proofs I see of this truth -- that God governs in the affairs of men ."
