I would say that a degree in classical studies represents a real education. But there is no specific job waiting for you at the end of it, so if thats why you get it, you’re too dim to have a degree in classical studies.
Get your degree in the classics, and then get a job working on the shop floor and learn the business from the ground up. Or get your degree in the classics and then go see your Navy recruiter. They’ll find something for you.
I knew someone who got a degree in medieval French literature. And she got a job researching medieval French Literature.
How many jobs like that are available?
Agreed. And the marketplace will handle the degree quality issues.

It hasn’t over the last 30 years ... You’ll still have jobs going to Indians and Thais who took a 6 month cram course in computer science , certificates that were bought or received by “group” work .. and have absolutely no experience taking jobs from people that are worth a damn ... The whole H1-b visa scam just won’t go away. Basically you’ll have 1 American with experience in a minor management role riding herd on 20 or so worthless coders that have no CLUE what the requirements are because they don’t speak the language , can’t communicate and can’t picture what the finished product must do.
then the school loans come due...
so I am all for these cut rate degrees.....either you know computers or you don't....
btw...here on the west coast, the Western Governors Association has an on line college degree program that is cheaper than any other AFAIK....cheaper than other online programs...
I don't know, but it can't be too many. I'd guess ten or less in this country, more in France.
She may be mad now, but if she worked for it, she may not be in such debt, and she also proved to herself that she has the will for it.
Yea, I know it was a joke. I know of someone also getting that degree - “Classics” they call it.
Why they hell does ANYONE need a degree in it? Why not just study it off-line. I mean if you screw up, it’s not like bridges will collapse or people will be given the wrong drug. At worst you’ll attribute something Plato said to Socrates - BIG WOW, as if either of them is going to come back and beat the crap out of you, or a building will burn down.
In any case, if someone wants to get a $200,000 degree in “Classics”, it’s time THEY and ONLY THEY paid for it, not the government, and the colleges through “Need-Based Financial Aid”, as that is driving up the costs of tuition for serious students.
That’s a tiny step toward a freer education market. Good news.
or you could buy your degree from kingsbridge university like our teachers do here in Illinois. fully acceptable by the dept of education and the state dept. get a PHD online in 15 days for a thousand bucks.
and yes, these 15 day degrees work for immigration purposes in the US and Canada, and are officially signed by john, f’in kerry and the state dept (no one in the private sector would take them, I reckon)
check em out online.
(btw, instant step raises if you are NEA member in our fair state)
The world needs more ditchdiggers... MBA optional.
