BIRMINGHAM, Alabama -- The fate of Paula Deen's magazine, Cooking with Paula Deen, is still up in the air after a controversy over the Food Network host's use of racial epithets led to the end of her television contract.

"We are not in a position to discuss her magazine and contract right now," said Phyllis Hoffman DePiano, the president of Birmingham-based Hoffman Media, which produces the magazine. "A statement will be forthcoming later."

"We at Hoffman Media do not condone discrimination of any kind," DePiano said.

Good points. Let her fans decide what the fallout will be. If her ratings dropped sharply, and she doesn’t sell magazines and cookbooks anymore, then her fan base will decide whether this alleged controversy is enough for them to shun her.

The Left cannot allow that. Allowing her to be branded a racist, and have her career continue without a glitch would be their nightmare scenario. Other people would then think they can get away with failing to kiss Al Sharpton's ring.

Meanwhile the President of the United States considers his grandmother a “typical white woman.”

You must have to work at being shallow, Norm. No one that has been a freeper as long as you have could have remained as shallow as your postings reflect unless they worked at it daily. And now you’re getting downright hateful!

The reason we're in the situation that we are in, is because the Right is INADEQUATELY "hateful". Leftists can be as nasty as they want, but any reprisal from our side is "hate".

Screw that.

“We don’t condone discrimination of any kind”: that is unless it is directed at Christians, conservatives or Tea Party members. Then it is okay.

After Sandy I worked at a relief center and one day Paula showed up. She brought 100 hams and 100 smiles. She so gracious and sweet we all loved her. I have two pictures with her and they are treasured possessions. Please write the Food Channel and let them know how you feel about this ridiculous move.
Paula should do what Beck did and start an on line subscription show. It would probably do very well.

Ah, the real reason.

I’m not a fan of PD. Or her persona. (I’d rather watch reruns of Julia Child or Graham Kerr...heck, even Martha Stewart’s more interesting and instructional than PD.)

However, I did hear part of PD’s explanation that “it was different times” to be reasonable.

The poverty pimps and guilt-instilled liberals are out en masse to protect the racism brand, among other things.

I know she’s a libtard but her recipe for coconut covered sweet potato balls is to die for.

I prefer Schweddy balls myself.

Exactly right!
Everytime I hear “A-A”, I cringe and think JJ is giggling at the world.

No, you are wrong. Only ignoramuses use that word. I have noticed that certain types want the “right” to say it. No one I know uses it and I certainly wouldn’t contemplate using it. If anyone used it around me, I would leave immediately.

The people who say it, are people who don't care about the reaction of the politically correct. That is why lefties' attitude is that such people need to be destroyed.

“White trash” is right....
While I am loath to condemn her. For her “mis-speaking”, I grew up with very old school, Southern, Confederate ancestry relatives who employed black helpers in the house and garden. NEVER did I ever hear any of them refer to ANY blacks by the “n” word...that was trashy.
They used “negro” or “negra”... and always were respectful to all people they inter acted with.
Now I have no problem condemning Deen for being a libtard...no sir!

I know. Her sons are so annoying and so is she. Hate the way she’s always licking her fingers and saying “y’all”. However,I do think she should not have been fired. So what if she used the N word way back when. I thought we had freedom of speech in this country. It’s so wrong that she gets fired over speech and we have Lois Lerner who probably has committed many felonies, taking a paid vacation. Sick. I hope there is a backlash against the Food Network.

Hell, haven't they ever heard of "Wop", "Kike", "Polok", ad nauseum? Where's all the breast-beating organizations complaining about those hurtful slurs? Oh wait, they shrugged them off and moved on with their lives.

I used to have to work with a manager who was Jewish and her assistant, an Irish Catholic. In a case of too much information, I knew that both of them were lesbians. One day we grabbed some hot dogs from a street vendor outside the offices for a quick lunch. (I know where you think I'm going with this; but wait.) During a prolonged string of slur jokes all of us traded while eating, the Jewish one tried to feed mustard to a silver pendant in the shape of the face of Christ that the Catholic was wearing. Everyone rolled eyes and/or snickered. No one got fired. This was in the 80s.

By the late 90s, people could get fired for using the word "niggardly" to describe a too-small budget allocation.

I respect your opinion, Coach. This thread is a disgrace. For a bunch of conservatives, most of these posters are sounding just like progressives -- if they don't agree with a person politically, then they are unconcerned with her First Amendment rights.

They say you know a person by their enemies. So let's see:

Bill Clinton trashed Lani Gunier, potential Supreme Court nominee
Dubya trashed Martha Stewart, CEO of a large media corporation
Obama trashed Paula Deen, cooking show hostess
