WASHINGTON A high-powered rifle lost in the ATFs Fast and Furious controversy was used to kill a Mexican police chief in the state of Jalisco earlier this year, according to internal Department of Justice records, suggesting that weapons from the failed gun-tracking operation have now made it into the hands of violent drug cartels deep inside Mexico.
Luis Lucio Rosales Astorga, the police chief in the city of Hostotipaquillo, was shot to death Jan. 29 when gunmen intercepted his patrol car and opened fire. Also killed was one of his bodyguards. His wife and a second bodyguard were wounded.
Local authorities said eight suspects in their 20s and 30s were arrested after police seized them nearby with a cache of weapons _ rifles, grenades, handguns, helmets, bulletproof vests, uniforms and special communications equipment. The area is a hot zone for rival drug gangs, with members of three cartels fighting over turf in the region.
A semi-automatic WASR rifle, the firearm that killed the chief, was traced back to the Lone Wolf Trading Company, a gun store in Glendale, Ariz.

The store was coerced by ATF agents to sell the guns under highly questionable circumstances. Further, the guns were not even supposed to make it to the border, let alone get across the border.
This is Eric Holder's doing at the behest of Barack Obama - no one else.
You are correct on all counts.I’m sure Holder will issue info and an explanation sooner to the Mexican family, than to the family of Brian Terry.
What’s the Eric Holder Body Count up to now?
Not one gun was lost during Fast and Furious. All were purposely distributed.
You are precisely on target! :)
Did they do background checks before distributing them to the Mejican drug cartels ?
Just a riffle in the ATF’s “iron river of guns.”
Further, the guns were not even supposed to make it to the border, let alone get across the border.
That’s speculation on your part. We have no idea what the ATF thugs were up to.
IIRC, ATF and the DOJ have said the guns were not supposed to cross the border. Pretty sure about that.
YES—you have correctly connected the dots—now you can color the page as you desire. There seems a direct line between the Mexican Cartels supplied by this administration— and the Al Qaeda/Islamic Savages supplied by this Administration. The people of Egypt had no stomach for the Muslim Brotherhood— but my fellow Americans are not Egyptian. And the butch dyke repeated the defense of the her Administration and Progressives everywhere—What difference does it make ?
A lot of government agencies say a lot of things.
“Hundreds of firearms were lost in the Fast and Furious operation.”
These weapons were not “lost.” They were never tracked in the first place. They didn’t “find” their way (all by themselves, apparently) into the hands of catels. They were allowed to be bought by known cartel agents. This article purports to report the news but has done so in terminology that practically exonerates the Justice Department of blame.
In open testimony before congress the stated purpose of "fast and furious" was to ship arms over the border to somehow track them to the cartels. To say that they were "not even supposed to make it to the border, let alone get across the border" isn't correct.
Was this the IG Report and questioning thereafter or the ATF and/or DOJ?
