Same here in Atlanta. I have a lot of friends who survived purges from 2008/2009 (in various occupations) who have lost their jobs in the past month.
We get a week’s worth of fake good national economic news on the heels of things beginning to look somewhat bleak even in states and localities that have bucked the bad trend because of more conservative leadership. When this phoney baloney mess blows up it will not be pretty.
Nobody knows what the real numbers are — only that they are higher than reported. In 6-8 weeks these numbers will be quietly revised upwards without comment.

Not to mention unemployment is a one year service so those that go from job to job during that year and get laid off are not counted. There is a tremendous number of temporary workers including “contractor” engineers. I know many people that have been laid off from several jobs during a year period that are not counted in these numbers.
We just hired 250+ people in February and have laid off all but 50 so far. Many of those had been laid off within the previous year, but none of those are counted in these numbers.
Stop believing your lying eyes and swallow the official numbers. Like a good comrade.
