Craig James out at Fox Sports Southwest after one appearance (because of his comment about gays?)

The Craig James era at Fox Sports Southwest will be a short one.

SI.com has learned that the veteran broadcaster will no longer appear on the network. Fox Sports executives were not happy with the hire by the regional network, according to sources, and the hire had not been fully vetted at the highest levels of Fox Sports management. A formal agreement had not been finalized, even though James appeared on FSS on Saturday night. "Craig James will not be making any further appearances on Fox Sports Southwest's football coverage this season," said a Fox Sports spokesperson, when asked for a comment.

It couldn’t be because he was a really lousy sports commentator, so it’s probably because he insulted the ruling Homo class.

Well I don’t think it was because Craig James killed five hookers while at SMU. Because he didn’t.

No, he’s just an asshole. Everyone hates his guts and it was going to be a huge issue to have someone that deeply detested on the air. Somehow they did not realize how disgusting the guy is, but they found out fast when they had him on the air.

ESPN is overrun with lousy sports commentators. But they all hew to the “right” positions on the issues. So they get to keep their jobs.

He's a talented broadcaster who I've admired throughout his career, "said Fox Sports Southwest Senior Executive Producer Mike Anastassiou, in a statement. "His knowledge of college football and the experience he brings as an analyst will be a tremendous asset to our coverage.

Okay great. Now we have to run new hires by the homosexual lobby before they're fully approved.

I sure hope Obambi runs his plans by the homosexual lobby. Hate to see him break one of the last great taboos.

You know, it's a real shame you have to address it this way. Most homosexuals simply want to live their life as close to normal as they can. Then you get the activist, who offends not only straights, but I'd imagine quite a few homosexuals too, truth be known.

If this guy had good knowledge of the field he was being asked to provide commentary on, and he was a good sports broadcaster, then he should have the position.

What is being done to him here is wrong.

James was a self-aggrandizing arrogant jerk... back when he was the lower half of the Pony Express.

But I cheer the A-hole on... as I was a big SMU fan in those days.

And I didn't... have to listen to him talk!

Wendi Nix (horrible studio reporter) this past weekend made a reference to how certain FCS schools gave the big boys fits but said “That didn’t happen in Madison where Wisconsin beat UMass 45-0....” UMass is no longer FCS. She then mentioned “Victor Cruz’s Minutemen...” and got complimented for the obscure reference instead of corrected for the earlier mistake.

I don’t have a strong opinion either way regarding him as a newsreader, but watching him, Dickerson, McIlhenny, and SMU run roughshod over the SWC in the early 80s was quite a treat.

Dickerson got the most attention, but James put up plenty of yards himself, and was a pretty good punter as well.

At one time in this country, you were free to express your opinion, no matter what it was. Not so much these days.

When one’s employment is predicated on agreeing with the collective, there will be no dissension. What a brave new utopia that will be.

His stance on gays had nothing to do with this. He was a pompous, arrogant ass which is why ESPN did not renew his contract. His complete lack of professionalism during the Mike Leach/TT thing opened up he and his employer to massive potential liability. He’s a hypocrite of the highest magnitude. I, for one, am glad he will not be on the air and will never watch anything that he’s on.

Yes, the great momma’s boy, Keith, the crybaby, Olberman, is back on ESPN. Are sportcasters really that hard to find?
