I Am The Guilty Man
American Thinker ^ | 10/11/2013 | Charles E. Moore

I am the reason liberals believe their policies and ideas will work in the real world. I am the driven American entrepreneur.

Every time an entrepreneur accepts a directive from the government that will harm his chance of earning a profit; every time a roadblock is put up and the entrepreneur finds a way to adapt and keep moving on; every time a conservative curses the policy of the liberal but still keeps running his business and paying taxes... he confirms the liberal policy as a logical reality.

Citizen, this is YOUR responsibility. The buck doesn't stop at your congressman's desk, but at YOURS. You pay a protection racket.

“Why wouldn’t they believe their policies could work? We make their irrational ideas work for them. We prove them right.”

I was thinking about this in regards to cars. The EPA forced an oxygen sensor to be added to the exhaust. Engineers said, “Whoa! We can use that to continuously tune the engine.” The fuel standards gave us turbocharging which greatly enhanced performance and efficiency. All the tricks now used, from overhead cams to turbocharging to computers constantly tuning the engine for the real world, have been known forever. But like disk brakes or rack and pinion steering, they were not used because one extra dollar of cost comes out of the CEO’s bonus. (The market would have eventually forced everybody to use them anyway, but the liberals don’t believe in the market.)

They forced conservation on us but engineers adapted. So liberals made the standards even tighter and tighter. They really want all personal transport ended. Having failed with their first attempt because industry adapted, they’ve made fuel more and more expensive. Eventually, we’ll all be driving mopeds.

They won’t stop until we all live crowded into Soviet style apartment blocks in an inner city. The liberals will still live in their comfortable country dachas with their fences and their guards while the rest of us compete like rats for scraps.

I could not imagine telling my daughter that she can no longer go to dance school because daddy quit his business to prove a point.

My sons are grown, but their fondest memories aren't of music lessons or Little League sports, or video games, or of any of the "keep up with Jones's stuff".

They reminisce about simple things like family gatherings and inexpensive trips to a cabin near a lake. They recall people, many of them departed from us now, not things.

Those who have young children, do yourself and your kids a favor. Spend as much time as you can with friends and relatives doing simple, inexpensive outings like picnics, game/movie nights, hikes, and camping. Yes, camping. Camping can be a hassle for adults, but kids LOVE it. In hindsight, we wish we would have gone camping with our kids a LOT more.

I was just about to post a comment about the very same remark (by the author of the commentary at americanthinker).

It reminds me of what our elders went through in World War II. They answered the call, completely disrupted their lives, and many lost their lives in the process. Yet today, one can't imagine giving up dance classes to "prove a point." Everyone needs to have a look in the mirror.

When my sister and I were kids, we went on a lot of camping trips with our parents. We got to see quite a bit of the American West that way.

One of my LP friends once told me years ago he never voted because he did not want to give tacit approval and show acceptance of the outcome.

I once jokingly told him if it ever hits the fan I wanted to be in his cell (former artillery Captain). I feel sure if anything came falling down, he would not respect me because I have continued to prop up the ugly beast.

Before a person can get a business license for his own business, it should be MANDATORY in every single state that they read ATLAS SHRUGGED & write a ‘book report’ which has to pass a state licensing exam.

Maybe then, we would not elect such pretty looking morons who have an different agenda when they are in DC.

From the link...

"This is why, as I initially stated, I accept the blame for the downfall of America. I am the American Entrepreneur, the guilty one. I make the left... right."

At least the author has found a way to be compensated for pointing out the obvious. Unfortunately we are past the point where it could sway enough opinion to really matter.

They better be planning to grow what they eat, because mopeds won’t plow a field nor carry farm products to the cities.

Anyone relying on the political process to regain your freedom is sadly mistaken.
The massive job losses in 2008-2009 was in preparation of the demise that Obama and his myrmidons have ushered in.
But reality has never been one of “Progressives’” strong suits.

Good luck getting that sort of regulation past the regulators! Reading and understanding AS by business owners is the LAST THING that the regulators would ever want!

Thanks, a great piece that makes sense. The great declaration said we will suffer that which is sufferable and that does seem to be what is being said here.

An aside, the piece mentions Rough and Ready and the Phillipis. They were a good customer of mine back in the '80s when I was selling logging equipment parts. I witnessed the death of many logging companies, mills, and timber towns in that decade. There are still jobs in the business but not like it used to be.
