As the article notes, polls shows Sarvis pulled more votes from McAuliffe

Then, why did a wealthy Democrat fund Sarvis's campaign?

Regardless, Cuccinelli lost because the RNC provided him with little funding and he was outspent by up to a 10-1 margin. If had received the same amount as the last Republican candidate for governor ($6 million more), there is no reason to believe he wouldn't have won.

McAuliffe was handed this race by the Republican establishment and libertarians that voted for Sarvis. I hope any such types living in Virginia get raped by McAuliffe's policies.

Ron Paul wouldn’t even support this guy and you are humping for him. Maybe you’re at the wrong site.

Sorry, but the author does obviously live in CA and is probably not aware of the various factors that took place in VA to affect the outcome. Sarvis, who’s not truly a libertarian, was simply the proverbial last straw.

I don’t blame anybody. It was just plain old fashioned corruption................

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
If this is true (and it is), then we must blame the democrats.
There is a lot of blame today as to why McAuliffe won. A lot of experts thought Sarvis would pull votes away from the conservative.
Turns out he pulled votes away from the liberal democrat.
Losertarians. It must suck to even screw up losing an election like they do.
Exit polls showed that twice as many Sarvis voters said they would have voted for McAuliffe as Cuccinelli if Sarvis hadn’t been in the race , though most said they would have voted for neither.
http://abcnews.go.com/blogs/politics/2013/11/early-exit-poll-results-tell-a-tale-of-two-republicans/
That’s consistent with the pre-election polls.
yeah, that’s why an obama fundraiser was giving money to the libertarian.
no excuses.
a bona fide libertarian, ron paul, was endorsing Cuccinelli.
Sarvis had no chance to win. Cuccinelli did have a chance.
I blame, mainly, the RNC for Ken’s loss. but Sarvis was in on it, too.
enjoy the fascism, virginia.
That’s because Sarvis voters are game players, like so many libtards (again, as opposed to honest Milton Friedman types).
But you can’t win here….if your object is to excuse or support Libertarian politics, which is what Reason wants us to do. They either believe the right things philosophically and were used by the Dems as fools…or they believe the wrong things philosophically. Either way, they were a cancer on the results last night.
Enjoy the laughter.
After electing a bagman drunken clown criminal like McAwful, they are now the official laughingstock state in the country.
I'll repeat your words of wisdom with one caveat.
"Never blame the voters for your loss. The candidates’ job is to woo voters, if they didn’t woo enough to win that’s on the candidate and their staff. The voters’ job is to vote for the candidate they feel best represents them, they ALWAYS do their job right, even if we think they voted for the wrong guy."
The caveat - it takes a lot of money to woo voters since money is considered speech. Conservatives are not big money attractions. The Supreme Court has put a huge handicap on conservatives.
Too many folks were still making the argument that Cuccinelli was better than McAuliffe when they needed to be making the argument that Cuccinelli was better than Sarvis.
That's an excellent, excellent point when trying to attract any third-party candidate's voters.
The fact is that the GOP abandoned this race because the nominee was a conservative.
The money and votes connection is a bit fuzzier than people think. Yeah the guy with the most in donations almost always wins, but nobody has managed to find an X$ = Y votes piece of math. What seems to be the case is it really works the other way around, the person who is more popular with voters is also more popular with donators, in many ways donations is proving to be the most accurate poll a lot more than they’re vote buyers.
McAuliffe’s internal polls were showing both would be hurt up to the first 5% and then it would start to impact Cuccinelli 2-1. The race simply ended closer than anyone predicted.
“So it turns out Terry McAuliffe and Ken Cuccinelli were able to draw away enough votes to keep Robert Sarvis from winning Virginia’s governor’s race.”
ha ha!
