Death of British spy found in locked gym bag ruled 'accident'

Scotland Yard on Wednesday reversed a coroner's finding of foul play in the 2010 death of British spy Gareth Williams, concluding that an accident was likely responsible for the death of the code-breaker whose naked, decomposing body was found stuffed inside a zipped and padlocked gym bag.

London Metropolitan Police investigators had undertaken a review of evidence in the case 16 months ago, after initial restrictions on homicide detectives' access to details of Williams' intelligence work were lifted by the British secret service, MI6.

Deputy Asst. Commissioner Martin Hewitt told journalists in London that investigators only had access to Williams' work files and colleagues after the coroner's conclusion in April 2012 that his death was likely "criminally mediated."

"On balance, it is a more probable conclusion that there was no other person present when Gareth died," Hewitt said, according to the Daily Telegraph.

“Sky News reported that two contortion experts working on the earlier inquest tried 400 times to lock themselves into a similar bag and failed. Shortly after the earlier probe ended, though, an army sergeant was able to demonstrate that it was possible to zip oneself into such a bag from the inside in the cramped position in which Williams’ body was found, Sky reported.”

“For Queen and country.”

And then he embalmed himself and carved his own tombstone.

The world is mad ... that's the only answer.

I don't mean it's crazy mad, just no longer on earth mad.

OK ... we can't tell 'em the truth so ... we'll say it's an accident. Yeah, I know ... zipped up and locked from the outside ... just say it, OK ?

And so some idiot says it

And if questioned ... dumb, dumber and obfuscate.

I've said it so many times before ... and more frequently lately ... I wish I had a magic wand ...

zap .. you're no longer here ... zap ... you too ... zap .. yup, you're gone ...

As for the Brit, that was either one small man or one huge gym bag.

This guy was actually a great magician. The was the only man to ever pull off the amazing trick of padlocking himself in a bag.

He was also the first man not to be able to extricate himself from the bag.

He will not be repeating the trick due to the high risk involved.

Reminds me of how “The Bowler’s” Dad was said to have died in the (hilarious) movie “Mystery Men” ... “He fell down an elevator shaft onto a bunch of bullets”.

I like the way the bag zipped itself up and the lock falling off the table managed to get into the zipper pull and lock itself.

Now where have we heard similar deaths that always wind up as accidents or suicides yet the way they died was strange. I remember one person during the Clinton years I believe that winded up decapitated and was ruled a natural death. Ok move on along folks nothing to see here =)

“more probable conclusion that there was no other person present when Gareth died,” Hewitt said,”

So, whoever stuffed Gareth in the bag and padlocked it left Gareth in it to slowly die of dehydration. The Clinton-ness of Hewitt’s statement tells us he is in on the dodge.

I'm currently reading a collection of stories about unsolved crimes.

Since the beginning of the golden age of British rail in the 1830s, there have been bodies/pieces thereof turning up in unclaimed luggage at railway stations.

The British referred to them as "trunk-murders".

During one such spate in the 1930s, a popular seaside holiday destination earned the moniker "Torso City" for hosting three of five unclaimed luggage-containing-remains incidents.

Apparently, Bill Clinton's Arkansas ME has emigrated to the UK to continue his work avoiding whenever possible, ruling suspicious deaths and obvious professional hits, murder.

If it really was an accident, the British would have used the "Death by Misadventure" term as the cause.

Odd the same thing happened to jimmy Hoffa,
he climbed naked into an oil drum, filled it with
cement, then when it had set rolled himself off a
pier.

A term that I like! “Death by Misadventure”...happens often in the USA too. Good one.
