The Democrats’ naked power grab
Washington Post ^ | November 21, 2013 | Dana Milbank

Posted on 11/22/2013 12:47:30 AM PST by Cincinatus' Wife

......Sen. Carl Levin (Mich.), one of just three Democrats who opposed his colleagues’ naked power grab, read those words on the Senate floor Thursday after Reid invoked the nuclear option. The rumpled Levin is not known for his oratory. But he is retiring next year and free to speak his mind — and his words were potent.

“We need to change the rules, but to change it in the way we changed it today means there are no rules except as the majority wants them,” Levin said. “This precedent is going to be used, I fear, to change the rules on consideration of legislation, and down the road — we don’t know how far down the road; we never know that in a democracy — but, down the road, the hard-won protections and benefits for our people’s health and welfare will be lost.”...

...Reid’s remedy — calling a simple-majority vote to undo more than two centuries of custom — has created a situation in which the minority leader, Mitch McConnell (Ky.), is expected to use the minority’s remaining powers to gum up the works, and to get revenge when Republicans regain the majority.

“If a Senate majority demonstrates it can make such a change once, there are no rules which binds a majority, and all future majorities will feel free to exercise the same power, not just on judges and executive appointments but on legislation,” Levin said Thursday. Quoting one of the Senate’s giants, Arthur Vandenberg, Levin said his fellow Democrats had sacrificed “vital principle for the sake of momentary convenience.”

If it was possible to make things even worse in Washington, Reid just did it.

Reid’s “nuclear” move means the Dems know they’re auguring in, and fast.

If I am not mistaken, this nuclear option last only the next congress is sworn in? So if the Republicans win the Senate next year, they themselves would have to vote for this change to give them this same majority option the Rats voted for themselves yesterday.

Mitch, Reed's bi*ch, ain't up to it. Or, more precisely, is totally on board with the Dumbocraps.

Odd that the first black president approved of a tyrrany of a majority, where the minority is at the mercy of the mob.

This was their plan all along, to use a one Party control.

They did this when they had the House and the GOP couldn't muster up enough votes in the Senate.

Now, they are desperate to do their damage before next year.

The GOP must tell them that all business is going to stop and they will pay when the GOP regains the Senate.

Rush Limbaugh - November 21, 2013:

RUSH: I have a brief question for Senator McCain, Senator Susan Collins, and the rest. How is that “working across the aisle” thing working out for you now with this nuclear option thing? You stuck your hand out across the aisle to shake hands with ‘em, and now you gotta somehow reach around and take a knife outta your back.

What is it with Dems and not realizing the consequences of an action taken for political convenience? Dems in Massachusetts did the same kind of thing when they wanted to put their ringer into Fat Teddy’s seat in the Senate, and then tried to backpedal madly when the same rulechange allowed Brown (though granted he turned out to be quite the disappointment) to take Kerry’s seat later. They’re always happy to gimmick the rules to suit themselves, and never seem to grasp that the change could ever affect them negatively.

The United States of America just became a Liberal Fascist State. The final link has been forged in the Legislative Branch. The Judicial Branch has been cowed and usurped. The executive branch is in the hands of fascists who betray America, her military and her allies.

All we have between the Obama Fascist movement, absolute tyranny, and the People is the House of Representatives. If they are defeated or subjugated by Obama, we will have gone over the edge of no return. Therefore the House of Representatives must fight and join with conservatives who are in the Senate, to repeal Obama Care. It must be done and we must oust the fascists in the next election while assuring that we have a GENUINE election.

Welcome to the United States of Zimbabwe.

We are no longer a republic.

This is mob government.

Thus was done for one reason:

“To give one man obscene and unchecked power”.

Levin's just warning his fellow Demwits to work harder to ensure a durable majority a.k.a. a Single Party State. Thanks Cincinatus' Wife.

It took lies:

“................Some see these nominees as an effort to pack the court after a series of decisions Obama did not like.

The issue was similar last July when Reid and company convinced the Republicans to capitulate on President Obama’s terrible nominees to the National Labor Relations Board. In tricking the Republicans into approving numerous nominees the Democrats promised they were “not touching judges.”

Harry Reid (D-NV): “We’re not touching judges. That’s what they were talking about. This is not judges.” (NBC’s “Meet The Press,” 7/14/13)

Reid didn’t stop there. He made a similar promise at a Press briefing:

Harry Reid (D-NV): “We’re not talking about changing the filibuster rules that relates to nominations for judges. …this is not about judges.” (Sen. Reid, Press Briefing, 7/11/13)

Reid wasn’t alone in making such representations. Senators Sherrod Brown and Amy Klobuchar also offered similar assurances:

Sherrod Brown (D-OH): “…I think any president should have the ability to put people in place for the — at the pleasure of the president. These are not judges. That’s a whole another issue.” (MSNBC, 7/9/13)

Amy Klobuchar (D-MN): “…I don’t understand why for these nominees, I’m not talking about judges here, I’m talking about the president’s team, of which there are currently over 180 people that are just pending right now before the Senate for the Executive Office nominations. Why we can’t just do 51 votes is beyond me.” (ABC’s “This Week,” 7/14/13)......

We are now no different than a banana republic like Argentina. We have a President that doesn’t follow the law and a Senate that is no different than a town council. Thanks to leftists.

In Argentina sure they have a Constitution. It works until p-ssants like Cristina Fernandez decides it’s irrelevant. Sound familiar?
