I believe the plane you are thinking about was a P-3 Orion.

4 Pratt & Whitney Turbo Prop engines. Heavily gutted and modified domestic short haul and commercial airliner.

The P-8 appears to be a bigger, more gadget filled version of the old S-3 Viking or “Hoover”.
