President Obama is packing his bags for a 17-day, taxpayer-funded Christmas vacation to Hawaii, The Washington Times reported. The vacation begins on Friday, December 20.
The first family will reportedly be shacking up at a palatial ocean-front home that rents for $24,500 a week. When you toss in the shaved ice, greens fees, and gas for Air Force One, the American taxpayers could be on the hook for one mighty expensive Hawaiian holiday.
The Hawaii Reporter ran the numbers on last years trip and found that it cost taxpayers more than $4 million. Thats some pricy poi.
And while the first family enjoys pampering in paradise, itll be anything but a vacation for folks who live close by, according to Hawaii News Now. Residents will be subjected to roadblocks and security checks. A popular canal will be closed and patrolled by Navy Seals and military blockades have reportedly been erected on the beach.
One time they stopped me they opened up my gas cap to look into the lawn mower, resident Norman Asing told the newspaper.
And as much as the locals enjoy the attention, some say the inconvenience has worn thin.

Therefore that pricey south side mansion that he got via a sweetheart deal from convicted felon, Resco, is out of the question.

That dude is wrong, man, just wrong!
Get on the metrosexual bandwagon B4 it leaves the station.
Clearly, these two have succumbed completely to the drug-like allure of all the trappings of the Presidency. Not surprising. They have not the mental make-up to resist it.
Many past first families have understood the addictive nature of all the accouterments, and have noticeably “held back” in the name of symbolism, if not their own psychological well-being.
If ever there were a time to consider the optics, now would be a good time for the Obamas to do so.
Not these two.
Nouveau riche syndrome? They’ll go the way of most lottery winners, and die miserable.
Well, he has family there.
They are all dead but they are family.
I guess they sold Gram’s house after she died and can’t stay there?!? >.<
Two presidents, two completely different philosophies on leadership.
And two completely different methods of coverage by the MSM.
And they must be voting too
Obama on vacation . Actually, his vacation started on January 20th 2009 and its been on-going ever since. His accomplishments are few, his decisions without angst are non-existent and his ability to lead has proven futile. He is ultimately Chauncey Gardiner, a character out of Jerzy Kosinskis mind who actually became the President of the United States. This presidency will surely go down as the strangest and most meaningless period time in Americas history, other than the strange phenomena of the media making a character out of whole cloth and actually suckering the American public into voting for him twice.
That would even be better
Oh, this is going to be soooooooooo boring for poor Barack.
Well, after all, he deserves it. It’s hard work tearing down the greatest country on Earth. He needs a little time off to reflect on what he’s done (so far).
This is not GW Bush's property below, but you get the idea...
I like it.
If we had a Senate who would convict....
While it is normally true, the current resident of 1600 Pennsylvania is on vacation. I remember President Bush always working on his ranch, and that doesn't mean when he was cutting the brush at his ranch. Meeting with dignitaries from foreign countries that normally would have come to the White House for meetings is certainly work
I dunno...if you’re there as part of the Secret Service detail, it would be a bit of a Busman’s Holiday. Maybe I’m getting to be a codger, but I’d rather be home for the holidays.
Even Bent-D*** BillyBob spent most of his Christmases at Camp David, IIRC.
