House Republicans are preparing to unveil their own broad template for overhauling the nations immigration system this week, potentially offering a small opening for President Obama and congressional Democrats to pass bipartisan legislation before the end of the year.
Speaker John A. Boehner of Ohio and other Republican leaders are expected to release a one-page statement of immigration principles this week at their annual retreat in Cambridge, Md., according to aides with knowledge of the plan. The document is expected to call for border security and enforcement measures, as well as providing a path to legal status but not citizenship for many of the 11 million undocumented immigrants in the country, the aides said.
The Republican effort comes as Mr. Obama is expected to push once again for an overhaul of the immigration system in his State of the Union address Tuesday, and as lawmakers from both parties describe immigration as one of the few potential areas for bipartisan compromise before the end of the current Congress.

Woo hoo!! And the first 27% is in!! Thank you all very much!! |
So they will get the money from big business to buy whose votes exactly?
Sadly people in TN eat, breathe, and digest Lamar! and will continue to do so, but no one can say why.
People in WI think they have a crown jewel here, but they wouldn’t vote for him for VP, preferred old Joe instead.
I have heard one theory I find very attractive for Boehner.
They will pass it after the election in a lame duck session right before Christmas.

“as well as providing a path to legal status but not citizenship for many of the 11 million undocumented immigrants in the country, the aides said. “
Yeah like that will stand. The foot will be in the door.
Another half-measure cave by the establishment GOP.
Just the opening the Rats want. Give them an inch and they will take a mile.
“Why is this even being pushed? It’s not a priority to the voting public.”
It’s a priority to the RINO corporatists. They’ve been bought by the highest bidder and it isn’t their constituents.
You said you are a capitalist....I take it you're not greedy or power hungry...and you wouldn't put power or money over country.
“I’m done with the GOP....but I dont know where to go.”
That’s the problem, isn’t it?
I left the GOP many years ago and registered as an independent. But that left me completely unable to influence the Republican Party in any way. So I re-joined the GOP last year in hopes that one more small voice, and one more primary vote, might actually help keep the party on the straight and narrow. But news like this is pretty damn dispiriting.
I could’nt agree more on NOT paying benefits to illegals.
To accomplish that worthwhile goal, WE NEED TO WIN ELECTIONS!
After elections are lost there is ZERO power to change any laws. Wishful thinking on message boards won’t do it. We need unity, strategy, and hard work. Unity involves following Reagan’s philosophy of voting for the most conservative WHO CAN WIN, not necessarily the MOST conservative.
Winning elections portends nominating candidates who are smart, politically astute, who can win votes from more than one group, have the financial resources to get the message across to the low information voters. People like Akin, Romney, McCain, Mourdock, O’Donnell etc are not good candidates.
Sorry but if this passes, voting for things will be over. It won’t matter if we resurrected zombie Ronald Reagan, because the leeches will be to many for republicans to ever again win national office. If 20 million New Democrat voters are made, we are down to two options: civil war or multicultural quagmire and extinction.
Power is the last thing on my agenda for myself.
Money, booze, sex,,,now those are issue dear to my heart :-)
But seriously, our gov’t is all about crony capitalism. That is not true capitalism by a long shot. In true capitalism every outfit or individual flourishes because they are efficient and have a product or service needed in the marketplace.
To accomplish that goal, first WE HAVE TO WIN ELECTIONS.
In our system, winners of elections have all the power. Losers become eunuchs. Just as Akin & Mourdock how much power they have to change any laws. To win elections, the most important ingredient is uniting behind the MOST WINNABLE candidate. It involves not take your marbles and go home if your candidate soes not win nominations. Until republicans learn that, I am afraid we will live with more Solyndra’s, more Obamacare, more unconditional amnesty for illegals, more taxes, more regulations, on and on.
Put away that straw man.
You are correct. This is the death of the United States of America. On its corpse, a rotten third-world USA-Mexico merged-state lives on.
Since rounding up will not happen under Obama/Holder power structure, and Amnesty is coming, what do you intend to do about it? Go into the basement and stay there on election day?
Again my main reason to post in this thread is to emphasize importance of winning elections FIRST. When nominated candidates lose election, they are powerless to change any laws. McCain/Palin or Romney/Ryan or Akin or Mourdock or Sharon Angle or O’Donnell can’t change anything important.
It’s not Obama/Holder that will pass Amnesty but Obama/Reid/Boehner.
And the GOP did win an election, in 2010 for control of the House. A meaningless event if they pass Amnesty /Mexico-Merger.
Regarding election days: If there’s a conservative third party candidate on the ballot, I will vote. If not, I stay home. Don’t have a basement, so the living room will do.
