Officials in Connecticut Stunned by What Could Be a Massive, State-Wide Act of ‘Civil Disobedience’
The Blaze ^ | 2-13-2014 | Jason Howerton

On Jan. 1, 2014, tens of thousands of defiant gun owners seemingly made the choice not to register their semi-automatic rifles with the state of Connecticut as required by a hastily-passed gun control law. By possessing unregistered so-called “assault rifles,” they all technically became guilty of committing Class D felonies overnight.

Police had received 47,916 applications for “assault weapons certificates” and 21,000 incomplete applications as of Dec. 31, Lt. Paul Vance told The Courant.

At roughly 50,000 applications, officials estimate that as little as 15 percent of the covered semi-automatic rifles have actually been registered with the state. “No one has anything close to definitive figures, but the most conservative estimates place the number of unregistered assault weapons well above 50,000, and perhaps as high as 350,000,” the report states.

Needless to say, officials and some lawmakers are stunned.

They should be thankful it’s “civil” disobedience. Uncivil Disobedience could get...dicey.

Their lakes must be overflowing with all the guns lost on ice-fishing trips this winter.

Other officials think the low registration numbers are due to ignorance on behalf of gun owners ...

Clueless "other officials" alert!

They probably sold them in the inner cities. It is safer to get your weapon stollen than deal with the government incarcerating without due process in prison which gun registration an confiscation is.

It is not civil disobedience, it is jail or jail calculation.

The dims cannot understand why the general population didn’t see the utopic vision being offered here. If you register automatic weapons then they couldn’t possibly be used in a crime.

From the main thread...

"I honestly thought from my own standpoint that the vast majority would register," said Sen. Tony Guglielmo, R-Stafford, the ranking GOP senator on the legislature's public safety committee. "If you pass laws that people have no respect for and they don't follow them, then you have a real problem."

Real problem? Indeed.

If I were a Connecticut resident in this situation now, I believe that I’d have to just tell LE that “the particular weapon was sold at a gunshow - no receipt, I lost it”. Then just make sure they never find it.

Hard to believe the American Revolution started in Taxachusetts. As did the original Tea Party.

All the state of Connecticut has to do is go to the background check list and start the 3:AM no-knock raids. It will be easier than the British marching on Concord. New Englanders just aren’t what they used to be.

Oh my. The lakes and rivers in Connecticut must really be clogged up with all those weapons lost in boating accidents..
