The U.S. Postal Service (USPS) has posted a request to purchase “assorted small arms ammunition,” reports political analyst Michael Lotfi.
The solicitation by the USPS was posted on FBO.gov, the federal government’s federal business opportunities website. The process is now underway to arrange for the purchase of guns and ammo for some undisclosed use by the post office.
As Lotfi points out, it is curious that the postal service can afford to arm itself given their precarious financial position:
The USPS has been posting $1-5 billion quarterly losses for years. In fiscal year (FY) 2012 alone the USPS lost a record $15.9 Billion. At it’s current rate of spending, the USPS is projected to hit $45 Billion in debt within the next three years.

In 2012, the Social Security Administration asked for 174,000 “.357 Duty Carry Sig 125 grain bonded JHP hollow point bullet ammunition.”
On behalf of the National Weather Service, the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) has joined the crowd clamoring for ammunition, asking for 46,000 rounds of hollow point bullets for themselves.”
Why?
If true, we need to know where these stashes of ammo are at.

In closet at my kids school?
So...I’ll go into a post office and the already disgruntled “worker” will shoot me if I complain about their bad service and attitude?
This is at the same time they are embarked in an organized campaign to confiscate all legal firearms from law abiding citizens.
Does anyone else see a pattern?
Undisclosed use? what better way to ship arms and ammo than the USPS.
I’m no fan of the current business model followed by the USPS, but they have a legitimate need for ammo. The Postal Inspectors deal with some pretty nasty types, like makers and distributors of child porn for example. They have a better excuse to have ammo than the Dept. of Education. I still can’t figure out why the Dept. of Ed. needs Remington 870 shotguns...

Must be that it’s more cost effective to go postal on the taxpayers’ dime.
The ammo that was supposedly for the NWS actually went to the National Marine Fisheries Service (NMFS). I followed the link in the article and noted that while the initial bid request stated it was for the NWS, the ammo and targets were actually shipped to NMFS offices (the addresses are listed in the request for bids).
If the ammo was really meant for the NWS, wouldn’t they have shipped it to NWS offices rather than NMFS offices?
It seems far more plausible to me that the Government employee entering the initial request for bids accidentally selected NWS when he/she wanted NMFS, both of which are agencies under NOAA, than a secret ammo buildup in Government agencies that have no law enforcement function.
You can’t make this stuff up. Somebody, somewhere in all those czar meetings, should have said something like, “not so fast on these guys, cowboy.”
The nearest anyone up here gets their mail is the Post Office. They don’t deliver within 5 miles.

ya know detective, all these folks in these agencies can’t be on the same side and united ... I fully expect they will shoot each other with all these firearms and ammo laying around. Let’s face it ... government employees aren’t the brightest bulbs in the box.
tell a usps worker they’re part of a federal agency and they will deny it. dont know how many times they say they’re private.
USPS worker is almost an oxymoron. Almost none of them are hard at work. I would call them Post Office employees.
If they are private they sure have a government work ethic and attitude. Department of Motor Vehicles, Post Office etc they all sit there with that “I could care less about you people waiting in line” attitude. They know you can't take your business elsewhere. They know they can't be fired no matter how bad they screw up.
