Coast Guard Commandant Adm. Robert Papp said that in 2010 Obama told U.S. military leaders to accept his push for gays in the military, and that if they didn't, they could take the "opportunity to resign [their] commissions."
Papp said these things in a video BuzzFeed obtained through a Freedom of Information Act request.
The video shows a speech Papp delivered to Coast Guard Academy cadets during which he was asked how he would deal with enforcing an order with which he didn't agree. He used the story of his 2010 meeting with Obama as an example of how service members' duties can be compelling and conflicting with personal desires....

DOD also fixed the language. Homos are “gay” and lesbians. Can’t call them what they are, homosexuals.
What are our chances of winning any more wars now?
Grenada would probably invade us.
When they place women in direct action units, zero.
I agree. Patton was no politician. Like you, I believe for standing up. If you rise to that rank you are supposed to “lead” your troops. You’re not there to pad your retirement at their expense.
You obviously don't know the military. If they resigned, they would get their pensions - they've earned it. As long as they have their "20" or more, they retire at full pay.
Resignation is not a disqualification of pension. They would have done nothing wrong - other than refuse to follow a policy that they [in good conscience] disagree with. Resignation is an amicable parting.
On the other hand, if the officers stayed on and disobeyed direct orders [such as refusing to implement gays in the military], then they could be brought up on charges. If convicted, they could forfeit some [or all] of their retirement pay at their current rank. Or, be allowed to retire with full pension at a lower rank and less money.
“When they place women in direct action units, zero.”
You have to wonder...what kind of woman eagerly, and willingly lines herself up with mortal combat, unless it’s protecting her offspring, and territory?
“Grenada would probably invade us.”
“Upper brass in the military are no different than anyone else who has had a long job career with one company. They spend years of their life getting to the top in anticipation that someday they can/will retire “
These turds expect subordinates to follow their orders which will likely result in that very person’s death. They ARE different, and if they want to be in the corporate world, they can go there. More is expected of these SOBs.
Their subordinates must risk their very life, but they will not risk a paycheck? BS, he should have resigned. By not doing so, he became a traitor.
:’) To be fair, the Macedonian army pretty much kicked every ass it ever came across. :’) But I take your point — the Spartans were all pederasts, and wound up getting slaughtered by the Thebans. :’D
#287: in peacetime, many; in wartime, few.
lol - you avoided posting the preface / libertarian bashing meme, hoping to obfuscate.
I've been clear enough
I guarantee if anyone revisits a post by you in the coming weeks, you'll be puffing up your brand and blanket stamping Libertarians there as well, be it a thread about politics or pizza
Have a great weekend, troll
Oh well, at least I would have stood up for Godly convictions.
The American people gave up on integrity decades ago. It’s old hat now.
Traditional people need to stay in their jobs. This is Obama’s way of purging the military without it looking like he’s purging the military.
Soon Obama and this thugs will be out of office...
It’s sad democrats have redefined the concept of ‘tolerance’ to mean, “Do it my way or you lose your job.”.... I guess their next step in ‘tolerance’ is to tell us to do it their way or they’ll kill us.
Gotta love the liberal shits - they’re thuggy to the bone.
And you proved my point.
I win, on both points.
(Point 1: Honor and integrity is valued by men but apparently not you, and point 2, your juvenile need for the last word compels you. Now. . .prove me right. . .AGAIN))
Our current military chain of command is a joke. If I may, I have a different take on this situation. Our current crop of general and flag officers are mostly REMFs, and are more concerned about their trappings and perqs of rank than they are about the servicemembers they command. Just look at the failure of the chain of command in situations like Abu Ghraib and the disastrous rules of engagement in Iraq and Afghanistan.
They're so used to having their a$$es kissed all the time, and no one below them ever offers a discouraging word. Try and tell a general they're full of $hit, and your career is over.
Most of these men and women can make a ton of money in civilian life, and many will. Sadly, these bright people have been institutionalized almost as badly as Brooks in Shawshank Redemption. It's a real kick in the a$$ for them to be just another civilian.
Please don't misunderstand my rant as being bitter. I served with officers in the Army and Air Force who put on stars, and I treasured my time in the Army. My first assignment was to an ADA battalion (motto "Night Hides Not") that provided short range AD to Hahn, Bitburg, and Spangdahlem AB's. That time was undoubtedly among the best four years of my life. Additionally, multiple graduates from my ROTC detachment made it to general rank (I was merely in the middle of my class and considered myself to be an average officer).
Would Romney have forced commanders to quit over this?
Two highlights in my tour in Germany were meeting GEN Haig and LTG Jay Garner (when he was a battalion commander).
I was the XO of an Admin/Log detachment in support of summer firing exercises at Todendorf, Germany. During the week his battalion was there, it was my job to shadow him (and all battalion commanders) to make sure they had everything they needed. For example, training schedules often changed, necessitating adjustments to dining facility hours.
I could tell by the way he interacted with his men, that he was respected and loved by his soldiers. I learned a lot from that experience.
Later, LTG Garner was the #2 man in Iraq when we toppled Saddam. His strategy for Iraq was not that of those in DC. His stated objective was to turn the governance of Iraq back to their citizens as quickly as possible. Nation building was not in his vocabulary.
Sadly, he was recalled from Iraq within a year of his posting. In my view, his strategy would have saved thousands of American lives.
“There was another choice that still exists....... remove Obama”
The time to remove Obama was before his coronation. Just observe how many here are now screaming about HIS agenda, when they just couldn’t bring themselves to vote for NO OBAMA!
The reason doesn’t matter a hill of beans, they got what they wanted, Obama in spades no pun intended, with all the slime and oooze laid at the feet of the other candidate they just couldn’t or wouldn’t vote for.
We will never know now, so what I say doesn’t really matter, but what we have is proof positive that who you do or don’t vote for matters a great deal so take your vaulted principles upon which you have hoisted the rest of us, and stuff it.
I don’t take names bert, so I don’t know if you are where I’m pointing, you just came up with the statement that got my attention vis-a-vis the “remove Obama” idea. So don’t necessarily take me personal if you aren’t in the camp of the folks here who now scream bloody murder, at what we have, when there was a choice that in there minds was not a choice, and refuse to accept the fact that their unprincipled position is how we got King Obama.
JMHO!!!
