Second ship picks up 'ping' in Malaysia Airlines jet search

The Australian military vessel Ocean Shield, towing a sophisticated pinger locator lent by the U.S. Navy, reported Sunday morning that it had picked up a signal, said Air Chief Marshal Angus Houston, who is coordinating search efforts from Perth, Australia.

That report comes on the heels of a Saturday night report from the Chinese ship Haixun 01 that it had detected pulse signals both Friday and Saturday at 37.5 mHz, the same frequency used by an airplane flight data recorder.

Guessing by now they had plenty of time to go dump a black box somewhere. I don’t trust anything governments say now, was far too many blatant lies off the get-go.

I sincerely hope this is it, for the sakes of the families. May they find peace.

And I also sincerely hope that within a year, the entire fleet of commercial passenger aircraft are outfitted with independent power source externally located gps locators that automatically trigger when transponders and or ACARS are disabled, so we don’t have to go through this again, ever.

Last week they were talking to a company that has black boxes that stream live from the “Cloud” that way finding the black box is not necessary..its about 100,000 per plane, and he said I think 300 planes already come equip with them..it would be great if they could come up with something so that the transponder and ACARS CANNOT be turned off, no matter what, that way if someone is in the cockpit and wants to hijack the plane he can’t turn it off

Give us a credible reason why they'd do this.

I'm a retired sailor of the Royal Australian Navy and I know some of the people involved in this search from the Australian Defence Force, and I know the type of people as well, even when I don't know them.

For an extremely good reason - and I mean extremely good reason - concerning national security, I might have kept things secret involving a missing aircraft, or even have engaged in some form of cover up. But the reason would have to be extraordinary.

In the absence of such a reason, I would have refused to do so - and so would many others. And those are just people from my own country's services - the same is going to be true of men and women of honour from a wide variety of other countries who are involved in this search. Many of whom are not particular friends of each other's nations, and so finding a cause which would lead to them all lying would be extraordinary.

Australia is currently spending tens of millions of dollars on this search. Other countries are spending a great deal of money too. People are away from their families in uncomfortable conditions, and as time goes on, and hours build up, the risk of something going wrong, and somebody getting hurt of killed increases. We're not going to do this for no reason.

I personally think the evidence is a bit thin that this is the area that MH370 went down, but we're looking there because it's the best evidence we have. Nothing else really makes sense. We could be mistaken - but I find it very hard to credit these claims of coverup. I really do.

I’m not sure what kind of peace they will have. The “why” will not be answered by the black box data and they won’t recovery any bodies.

The United States usually takes a major role in these type accident investigations when an aircraft is goes down, and any number of Americans on board are lost and an American manufactured aircraft is in question. Three American citizens were on the ill fated aircraft. POTUS Obama, once again was either asleep at the wheel, or just did not care enough to get the USA involved very quickly. With the Malaysian government & their government owned airline left standing alone at the outset, heading this search effort, and the USA playing a relative minor role in search & rescue, due to lack of interest from the Obama administration.....this investigation has turned into a three ring circus.

The media across the world....but....especially in the USA, is playing the role of “Dumb & Dumber”!!! Obama has shown exactly the same aloofness in leading the effort of investigation concerning the mass shooting at Fort Hood, Texas, this past week!!! It is clearly evident that from Obama on down, no one had really lifted a finger to take preventative actions on military bases, after Obama’s hero, Col. Hasan did his slaughter of military innocents act, back in 2009!!!

The USA has certainly lost face with POTUS Obama at the head of the ship of state of the American Republic. America is now fully looked upon weaker and incapable of doing anything meaningful across the country and the world. We are now a shadow of our former leadership self.....thanks to the inept, incompetent POTUS, Barack Hussein Obama!!! “How’s that hope & change going for you....America”!!!

Thanks so much for your post Naturalman....I touch base with the happenings but do not follow it daily....so it’s great to hear someone state things matter of fact...and your post would indicate to me you’re right in what you’re saying.

However, I do think Maylasia dropped the ball a ways back when it would have mattered had they been more forthcoming with the facts once the plane had gone off the map.

I thought likewise with Japan... when the Nuclear meltdown was happening. Prideful nations all, not wanting to appear unable to manage their affairs no matter the danger that looms.

Thank you again...good post..much appreciated.

They recovered most of the bodies (some of which disintegrated upon being moved, though) from Air France 447 up to two years after it went down.

They find the black box, say it is the plane and due to the depth of the water, will not be able to bring up the wreckage.

Thanks for posting and posting sanity. You have been here long enough to know that FR is an outlet that junior grade conspiracy theorists use to hone their “craft”. They are harmless and easily ignored.

They already have something that works:

Malaysia Airlines Flight MH370 Did Not Have An $11 Computer Upgrade That Could Have Provided Key Satellite Data To Aid Search

http://www.ibtimes.com/malaysia-airlines-flight-mh370-did-not-have-11-computer-upgrade-could-have-provided-key-satellite

But some airlines like Malaysian Airlines will still operate on the cheap and refuse to pay for the service and the equipment.
