The job market is still not the greatest, but we just got one hopeful sign that it might be improving a bit. The economy added 209,000 jobs in July, and the unemployment rate ticked up to 6.2 percent from 6.1 percent, the Bureau of Labor Statistics said Friday. Believe it or not, both of those numbers are encouraging. The reason the first number is encouraging is because, duh, jobs. The encouraging part of the second number, the unemployment rate, is less obvious. Normally, higher unemployment is bad news, and people seeing HIGHER UNEMPLOYMENT on the evening news tonight will naturally assume the worst. But this time, unemployment actually rose for a good reason.

Up is down.
Wrong is right.
Seriously? This isn’t a satirical jab at the MSM?
And they’re continuing with this theme?
Seriously? OK...
Well, 11.5 million people are out of the workforce and they are still eating, texting, cellphoning, XBoxing, Driving, smoking, drinking beer and watching TV.
How many were part-time jobs?
The HuffPo used to be verboten here...
Yep. Right up there with headlines like: ‘Why high gas prices are actually good’ (A real CNN headline)
I'll put the over/under at 75%.
They’re point is that it’s because more people are looking for a job now. They are actually correct in this, but why don’t they then report the full news of how many Americans are NOT employed nor looking for a job?
I pointed out to one lib that gas prices were around $2.50 per gallon in the sour Bush economy when both labor participation rate was much higher and the unemployment rate was much lower.
His reply: What does it matter? People who aren't working can't afford to buy gas anyway.
This during an era when 90% of the EBT card users in grocery store checkout lines bought better food than I could afford and drove away in better cars than I could afford.
So they are looking, big deal, tell me when they find full time jobs
Funemployment!
Funemployment. I remember that headline when this mess started. :(
It helps, because, the Fed cannot stop printing free money.
That’s my point exactly. When they were getting the headline they needed (e.g. Unemployment rate drops), they never mentioned the reason was mostly due to a historically low labor force. They just ran with it, and hoped the low infos bought into it. Now that the headline is going to be ‘Unemployment Rate Goes Up’ they need to explain to the rubes that this is actually not a bad thing.
Down is up.
Wrong is right.
I loathe Stalinits dupes.
Gongloff would not see good news in a higher unemployment rate under a Republican administration. He wouldn’t even TRY to find good news in that scenario.
