Exclusive: Angry with Washington, 1 in 4 Americans open to secession
Reuters ^ | 19 Sep 2014 | Scott Malone

The failed Scottish vote to pull out from the United Kingdom stirred secessionist hopes for some in the United States, where almost a quarter of people are open to their states leaving the union, a new Reuters/Ipsos poll found.

Some 23.9 percent of Americans polled from Aug. 23 through Sept. 16 said they strongly supported or tended to support the idea of their state breaking away, while 53.3 percent of the 8,952 respondents strongly opposed or tended to oppose the notion.

The urge to sever ties with Washington cuts across party lines and regions, though Republicans and residents of rural Western states are generally warmer to the idea than Democrats and Northeasterners, according to the poll.

Anger with President Barack Obama's handling of issues ranging from healthcare reform to the rise of Islamic State militants drives some of the feeling, with Republican respondents citing dissatisfaction with his administration as coloring their thinking.

But others said long-running Washington gridlock had prompted them to wonder if their states would be better off striking out on their own, a move no U.S. state has tried in the 150 years since the bloody Civil War that led to the end of slavery in the South.

"I don't think it makes a whole lot of difference anymore which political party is running things. Nothing gets done," said Roy Gustafson, 61, of Camden, South Carolina, who lives on disability payments. "The state would be better off handling things on its own."

We don’t need secession, we just need to do what Egypt did and get the Muslim Brotherhood out of our government and out of our country.

RE :Anything is possible in Candyland!! Where the streets are paved with chocolate!”

My favorite delusionalists were the birthers who in 2009 thru mid 2010 (till Trump led them off that cliff) kept insisting a single Federal judge could order Obama out of the WH, better yet that it was all about the constitution.

I recall at least one claiming that all laws he signed and orders he gave would automatically be declared invalid by that judge,

Were they serious? Meaning completely delusional? Or was making up and repeating this nonsense just part of a scheme to make Obama unpopular? (if so it backfired on that, Duh)

The ‘Palin will run and beat Obama in 2012’ claim is a close second.

How soon can I move? Tomorrow? Sunday? I won’t even pack i’ll just take my cars and money and leave the rest. The U.S. Govt. will take it all eventually. I am sure that some deserving have not will love my house. Until they wreck it and demand a better one.
United States Of Texas here we come.

Another good question:

"If Texas were to secede, would you vote to have your state join her?"

A good question! Somebody has to go first! I’m not sure how I would vote right now. I despise the mess the feds are making of things but I love my country. As a native Texan the case would have to be pretty strong (which it pretty much is) for secession.

I think you're right about countries such as China and their determination.

I think secessionists do not underestimate it, are just as determined as the Chinese et al., and are passionate about this and that they feel encumbered by the decadence of other Americans.

What they want is the throw off the yoke of decadence that millions of American seem to embrace and to free themselves and their children for ascendancy.

In other words: What they want is liberty.

That should ring loud and clear to anyone acquainted with U.S. history, but the American Left, so thoroughly suffused with decadence, cannot understand it.

“The 53.3% who are opposed to secession either work for government or otherwise get their living (i.e., welfare) from government.”

Probably fairly accurate. If things don’t change drastically and soon we are likely to see a breakup in this country along the lines of the Civil War. People are beside themselves with anger and anxiety. Everywhere we go the talk starts up out of nowhere. Total strangers in the grocery store will start talking about CWII. My best friend called me awhile back and asked me “when did open talk of Civil War become acceptable cocktail conversation?” We both laughed that nervous laugh when you know its coming.

I hate to be a pedant and didn't want to be irritating, but, since we're smarter than they are, we might as well broadcast it.

And anyway, keep that up and Sister Mary will rap your knuckles bigtime. It's not to late.

Because blue states get the full monty of fascism all the way down, yet not all the residents are in sync with it. There is much discontent for those trapped in it.

Ever here of the multiple secession threats in our states?
