Exclusive: Angry with Washington, 1 in 4 Americans open to secession
Reuters ^ | 19 Sep 2014 | Scott Malone

The failed Scottish vote to pull out from the United Kingdom stirred secessionist hopes for some in the United States, where almost a quarter of people are open to their states leaving the union, a new Reuters/Ipsos poll found.

Some 23.9 percent of Americans polled from Aug. 23 through Sept. 16 said they strongly supported or tended to support the idea of their state breaking away, while 53.3 percent of the 8,952 respondents strongly opposed or tended to oppose the notion.

The urge to sever ties with Washington cuts across party lines and regions, though Republicans and residents of rural Western states are generally warmer to the idea than Democrats and Northeasterners, according to the poll.

Anger with President Barack Obama's handling of issues ranging from healthcare reform to the rise of Islamic State militants drives some of the feeling, with Republican respondents citing dissatisfaction with his administration as coloring their thinking.

But others said long-running Washington gridlock had prompted them to wonder if their states would be better off striking out on their own, a move no U.S. state has tried in the 150 years since the bloody Civil War that led to the end of slavery in the South.

"I don't think it makes a whole lot of difference anymore which political party is running things. Nothing gets done," said Roy Gustafson, 61, of Camden, South Carolina, who lives on disability payments. "The state would be better off handling things on its own."

Bring back American jobs.”””

As a life-long bookkeeper, give me NO Union crap—give me truly EDUCATED labor force & give me a labor force that knows how to work——REALLY work.

40++++ years of welfare has killed the work ethic in America.

I have a small horse ranch. I still get people walking in looking for ‘work’. I wouldn’t use them to keep the water tanks full for the horses.

You won’t be getting a whole new super-cheap workforce, you’ll just get a larger workforce of minimum wage workers that can’t speak English.”””

I don’t see an employable work force at any price.

They do NOT speak English...

They do NOT write English....

They do NOT read English......

They CANNOT correctly fill out an I-9 for any employer in the USA. They do not have correct papers to work in the USA & any employer who does such hiring puts themselves in jeopardy of daily fines of $5000 per illegal.

They are criminals & chronically unemployable people from countries where education was all but forbidden & increasing the population was demanded by the churches.

None of those southern countries are sending us bank tellers—scientists——teachers-—usable people-——

Castro sent over all his prison population under
Carter’s nose. Carter swallowed the bait. Many were industrious-—and they sought to assimilate into America. But that was then & this is now.

I don’t see “industrious” in those who are invading across our ‘border’. I also don’t see an attitude of assimilation.

Jobs now demand that an employee speak Spanish. That has been happening for over 30 years. I refused to work anywhere that was bending to the illegals. I still won’t go to Home Depot because they were building ‘weather shelters’ in the parking lots of their stores in So Calif. Try going there, parking, and NOT getting swarmed by illegals looking for day labor in cash. NOT a pleasant experience for a woman alone looking for hardware for the home she owns.

They lost me in the 70’s, and I have owned 3 other houses since then. They lost my business to Lowe’s. Permanently.

Bring back American jobs.

Step 1: Say Bring back American jobs.

Step 2: See Step 1.

CNN's plan to save America.

Any one of us has a significantly better chance of becoming POTUS than Sarah Palin does, period.

RE:”Any one of us has a significantly better chance of becoming POTUS than Sarah Palin does, period.’

She herself knew that but lines like that were just fuel for the Palinistas here.
They would respond with ‘Your hatred for Sarah just shows that she is a threat to Obama and proves that she will win. She will be POTUS in 2013.’

Even after she refused to run many of them still claim she ‘would have’ won, as if that makes any sense.

In 2012 I kept posting on Palin threads “She wont run” so those who jumped on my comments were lured into claiming she was in fact running, then having to later defend her not running.

RE:”She’s been Quayled; she’s finished.”

When she quit her governorship she decided to never run for office again.

Instead she decided to be the conservative cult figure that we see giving funny one liners and getting gigs on FNC or now her own site,.

Eh. I still like her. She bugs the living crap out of the left.

She’s on our side. Even if she never runs for office, she drives the other guys batsh*t, and that’s always a plus.

Exactly, and she has enormous influence. It’s why the left and RINO establishment hate her. Hardly the description of someone whom is “finished.” When a public figure is finished, you forget about them and never talk about them again.

I’m not into a dogma of “evil corporations”. I do see a parallell of today’s multi billionaires in great numbers dumping large amounts of money to the democrats, a national socialist party that has much in common with nazis. I also see the chamber of commerce supporting amnesty and I believe that will be the ruin of the country but where the middle class will be gone business will run with cheap labor and less competiton at the behest of the government. Alfreid Krupp thought it a waste to send Jews straight to the gas chambers in a time of labor shortages when they could be worked to death in his factories and the end result would be the same. The company had agents at the death camps to determine which workers were healthy enough to be worked to death. When Americans were about to take Essen, Krupp had Jews sent on to the death camps so he wouldn’t be caught with them in the condition they were in and suffered under. He should have been hanged.

That’s a lot of damn guest stars.

And they were listed before the main cast? Weird.

Palin, she’s been useful as a celebrity endorser, the base likes her, I like MOST of her recent primary picks, others like Joe Miller (in 2014 not in 2010) made me facepalm. That’s the limit of her role. She will not run for President. She will not be Sec of State.

I knew her career in elective office was over when she resigned as Governor. That wasn’t a “brilliant move” that would increase her chances at winning the White House and she wasn’t “forced” out by Alaska democrats and their “lawsuits”. She quit and chose another life, can’t blame her after the rats went after her family in 2008.

I wish people would let go of the idea that she’s a demigod, she’s not. I also wish she hadn’t teased the gullible with the idea she might run for President and I hope it doesn’t happen again in 2016.

It’s quite ironic to me, I first heard of and admired her in 2002 when she was running for LT Governor of Alaska, that was before 98% of freepers outside of Alaska had heard of her, just us election nerds who follow every race, even Alaska LT Governor. I was an early backer of her for VP when people dismissed the idea. And now reality forces me to rain on the parade.

I vehemently disagree with the claim that she wasn’t forced from office. She was being systematically bankrupted by a blizzard of frivolous and baseless ethics charges that she had to defend herself from (a serious flaw with respect to the AK Governor’s office). It wasn’t just the Democrats engaged in taking her down, but the Murkowski Establishment wing of the AK GOP, nevermind the entire media establishment just for starters. They were pledged to destroy her and her family by any and all means, and leave her in tatters before the end of her term.
