The BIG PROBLEM with African immigrants (at least the ones that I work with) is that they are HARD WORKERS and take the education of their children VERY SERIOUSLY...much more so than the local blacks, or even nearly all of the whites that I work with.

They are simply in a DIFFERENT CLASS and make the locals look bad and inept.

Most African immigrants get a job and their children understand the importance of education. They don’t fit in with American blacks because they don’t have that victim mentality so ingrained in American blacks.

They don’t have the history to be “down with the struggle”. The black community said the same of Barack Obama (who’s father was not American or of American slave heritage).

Barack has actually claimed ties to American slave history through his children (and wife).

The black community has pecking order determined by skin color and perceived grievances as well.

Coming here from “Mother” Africa does not guarantee respect or admiration.

Most blacks are "racists", in a racism which depends on skin color
They discriminate against native Africani, who have no mixed race heritage, who they call "Blue-Blacks" due to the darkness and sheen of their skin.

I taught at a 98% black school in the South and the kids of African immigrants were always the valedictorians.

The immigrants are grateful for this country and they make an effort to speak proper English and work hard. Entitlement folks take that as an insult.

I knew someone who was a teacher in an urban public school system that had an influx of African immigrants some years ago. The first time one of the students got into trouble that was serious enough that the parents were notified, the kid's father showed up at the principal's office and gave her a ton of crap over it.

He told her that if his son ever disrupted her class again, she should have him beaten in front of the class and sent him home with bruises all over him.

The principal had to explain that students aren't disciplined that way in American schools. LOL.

I've got a friend who works with Pittsburgh youth. He tells me that Somali youth have a, shall we say, different outlook towards personal hygiene than do most Pittsburghers.

That's no excuse for violence, of course, but it might be part of the picture.

Er, students aren’t disciplined at all in American schools, unless they try to pray, salute an American flag, believe in gun rights or say no to ritalin.

Yes. The Africans I have met in Los Angeles just have a certain calm dignity that sets them apart on sight. The whole angry-victimhood thing is beyond them. When they see it, they just tip their heads and smile, like “What??”

The chances are good that these real Africans (Americans) are jet-black in complexion ... or as dark as a badger’s butt on a moonless night.

But in trying to make something of themselves through application and hard work, they will still be accused by Americans (fake African) of “acting white”.

I work with quite a few east African immigrants, mostly Ethiopians and Eritreans. The Africans I know really dislike the term “African American”. They take offense at these lazy black Americans calling themselves African.

I am usually very impressed by, and respect the African immigrants I have met EXCEPT those from Somalia. Those folks CREEP me out, big time.

Interesting. I worked with a “lost boy” who was a nurses aide in the ICU at pittsburgh’s Mercy hospital back in 2002. I lost track of him after I entered grad school the following year. Nice kid. Hard worker, wanted to be a nurse. He bore terrible scars from being beaten in his home country. All of his family I think had been killed.

The African American community really needs to take a hard look at itself. I know that won’t happen but I keep praying their hearts will be opened. They’re behavior is shameful.

All lives matter.

Their.

I should also add back then I was a naiive 20-something. I had never heard of the “Lost Boy” thing and was quite ignorant of the plight of these people. The scars on this young man’s arms & neck were startling to me.

Hope he is doing well.

Want some scary racism, check out the ingrained racism between Hutus and Tutsis in Rwanda.

There is some serious black on black racism there. An American journalist who went to discover his roots and write about the experience got caught up in in, and almost got butchered because his physical attributes looked like the wrong tribe when he was in the wrong place.

He didn’t realize the extent of the racism and tribalism there. He thought they were all going to be brothers because they had a common skin pigmentation.

Tribalism AND racism.
