Several Paris police officers who came into contact with the armed terrorists who slaughtered 10 journalists at the headquarters of Charlie Hebdo, a satirical magazine, retreated from the gunmen because they were unarmed, according to an eyewitness.
“Three policemen had arrived on bikes but had to leave because the men were armed, obviously,” Benoit Bringer, who works on the same floor as Charlie Hebdo’s offices, told France Info radio, according to The Guardian. “Then the attackers took off in a car.”

Obviously more gun control is the answer.
This just defies all logic. I mean those bad guys WERE’NT ALLOWED to have guns so why didn’t they just give themselves up to the police when they heard them blowing their little whistles.

If only that guy had a 30-06 instead of a video camera the day would have gone a lot differently.
Well if thy were unarmed, all they could do was get out of range and be observers - heck even if they had the old .38 service revolvers it wouldn’t work against bad dudes with AK-47s and (probably) bullet proof vests that would be effective against handguns. Maybe they could have slowed em down until the SWAT team arrived.
When your OPFOR is wearing body armour, aim for hips and heads.

Airman SP rode quarter mile on bike. Drew M9 at 70 yards. Fired 4 careful shots at bad guy with an AK. Brained him dead. 70 yards.

Granted it is possible - and you would certainly at least have a chance. Still, the odds are usually against the smaller gun.
But yeah...I would certainly rather have “something” that shoots over a whistle.
