” The only way some of these things will eventually register with the denser minded members of this forum is when it finally DIRECTLY affects them.

To put it simply.. when it finally burns THEIR a$$ then they “get it.” Unfortunately, then it’s too late. “

Well, add one more who indeed DOES get it.

Citizenship and Immigration Service agency within Homeland Security would still be able to pay its employees, even if Homeland were defunded. Because it is not funded by Congress, but by fees.

That’s not true. All fees go into the treasury and it is up to Congress to get the money back to the agency.

Page 18 of yesterday’s Times, last paragraph of “House Measure Defies Obama on Immigrants.”

I have seen both facts here on FR, but I don’t think the Times would print this if it were obviously not true.

Also:
The Senate may not pass it.
If they do, Obama will veto it.
Politically, it is not smart to defund Homeland Security after what has just happened in France.

That’s what I meant by redundant roadblocks. That’s four of them and there are probably more.

We didn’t know what would happen in Paris but the Cromnibus was the less politically damaging way to deal with the executive amnesty and the president who thinks he can make law in general. The GOP would have been criticized of course, but defunding Homeland would be even worse optics. They were chicken to defund Cromnibus, and were making little noises about defunding Homeland later, when world events conspired to wreck their game. That’s what happens when you try to take the easy way out.

“I wrote it because tens if not hundreds of thousands of posts by MANY, MANY people posting to FR have demanded exactly that. Mitt...They called anyone not doing so unpatriotic, a hater of America, An Obama supporter, a Reid supporter, a Pelosi supporter...”

OK, now I know why you wrote that. I didn’t click to what you meant as those folks didn’t demand we vote for “x”, they called us names, as you say, because we were NOT going to vote for “x”. I almost lost a Freeper good friend because I was not going to vote for Mitt. I vote for conservatives and that’s just the way it is.

http://www.usnews.com/news/articles/2015/01/13/house-immigration-defund-faces-major-hurdles

But the money used by DHS to carry out the executive actions comes from fees collected by U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services and is deposited into an account at the Department of the Treasury directly — not through congressional appropriation

Ok I was wrong. If they had the guts they could change that though. I’m sure Obama would veto it though. Apparently they have given their authority for Congressional oversight away. Why doesn’t that surprise me?

I can’t count how many times I was told specifically “If you don’t for Romney...”. They absolutely did demand candidates by name. I don’t know how else one can interpret “If you don’t vote for Romney you are a traitor to America” but a demand to vote Romney when thats the guy they pushed for months/years in some cases. Now did I ever hear the words “I demand that you...”, then no.

Sticking a gun to someones head and saying ‘wallet, now!” Can just as easily be called a demand though the word was never used.
