Brushing Aside Media Criticism, Egypt's Sisi Preaches Tolerance
Middle East Forum ^ | January 13, 2015 | Raymond Ibrahim

Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi continues to be the antithesis of longstanding mainstream media portrayals of him.

First there was his historic speech where he, leader of the largest Arab nation, and a Muslim, accused Islamic thinking of being the scourge of humanity—in words that no Western leader would dare utter

Next, Sisi went to the St. Mark Coptic Cathedral during Christmas Eve Mass to offer Egypt's Christian minority his congratulations and well wishing. Here again he made history as the first Egyptian president to enter a church during Christmas mass—a thing vehemently criticized by the nation's Islamists, including the Salafi party (Islamic law bans well wishing to non-Muslims on their religious celebrations, which is why earlier presidents—Nasser, Sadat, Mubarak, and of course Morsi—never attended Christmas mass).

Sisi stood side-by-side with Coptic Christian Pope Tawadros II—perhaps in remembrance of the fact that, when General Sisi first overthrew President Morsi and the Muslim Brotherhood, Pope Tawadros stood side-by-side with him—and paid a heavy price: the Brotherhood and its sympathizers unleashed a Kristallnacht of "reprisals" that saw 82 Christian churches in Egypt attacked, many destroyed.

Egypt was saved from Obama. Incredible they took their own country back from the extremists, despite United States opposition.

Arguably the most important Muslim country, we are now losing Egypt to the Russians and Chinese.

Even aside from his Islamist sympathies, Obama is showing us the horribly perverse results of having a leftist in power. Our friends are treated like dirt for supporting us, our enemies like Iran are praised as “regional powers”.

I'm impressed with this Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi. This is the kind of thing we need to hear from many more Muslim world leaders.

I think many Muslims are starting to realize that there are only 2 possibilities: either they solve this extremism issue from within their own ranks, or it will be imposed from the outside.

The latter solution will result in the annihilation of approximately 23% of the world's population from the face of the earth, while the former will permit those Muslims who wish to live in peace to be welcomed into a future of moderation, tolerance, and, most importantly, survival.

Good points! Do you think there may be a third option? The world becomes so infested with Islam (Al Hijra) that it becomes "fundamentally transformed" into a new hypersensitive Dhimmi state where every word must be must be carefully parsed. Of course it will stand up to ISIS, Iran, and Al Aquaeda but it will Kow Tow to its new minority leadership.?.?

Not Sadat. Al-Sissi has real power. Jihadists fear him, not the other way around.

He’s the “moderate Muslim” that idiots claim doesn’t exist...he shoots radical Islamists dead...pretty much daily.

There is a third alternative...Islam will slaughter
or enslave the rest of the remaining world.

I won’t live to see it, but that is their goal.

And Egypt’s neighbor, Libya got all screwed up through poor foreign policy. Wouldn’t surprise me if Egypt’s army might actually go in there.

“In sum, Iraq’s current round of major instability may not be as bloody as the dark days of the 2006 civil war, but with so many obstacles on both sides hindering a major accord between Sunni and Shi’a in Iraq, this phase of conflict is set to be a protracted war over many years to come.”

This is a different article from the OP but I don’t get the above statement. With ISIS there, I thought it must be about as awful as it has ever been.

Thanks for that. I was unaware of al-Sisi's stance vis-a-vis the jihadists until this morning. I hope you are right, and that he can make a difference in Egypt and, perhaps, the entire Middle East.

In response to your comment, I searched Google News for other stories about him and ran smack into one, which I've posted here. Unbelievable the high regard in which the undereducated turds of Hollywood hold themselves. Hope the Clooneys travel to Egypt to lecture al-Sisi and receive the same treatment any other jihadist sympathizer would get.

al-Sissi has already made a difference in the Middle-East. After kicking out 0bama’s Muslim Brotherhood from Egypt, he then convinced Qatar to cut off funding for the Muslim Brotherhood worldwide.

Later, it was al-Sissi who presented the peace plan that both Israel and Hamas accepted...after 0bama shot it down as unacceptable.

He’s the man.

And Al-Sissi is not the only moderate Muslim fighting radical jihadis and 0bama.

Lebanon waged a successful Cedar Revolution against the same, as has the Northern Alliance in Afghanistan...and so has al-Sistani in Iraq.

No thanks to 0bama.

Libya was thrust into chaos by 0bama’s 2011 war there.

You break it, you own it.

Then I’m praying he vets any of his bodyguards again and again and again and again, on an ongoing basis, year in and year out. He can never be too careful. I’ll never forget how shocked I was at Sadat’s assassination, and Lord knows we’ve gotten plenty of exposure to jihadi treachery over the years in the interim. I’m going to keep an eye on stories involving al-Sisi from now on. Thanks!

Sadat was making peace with Israel if I have that correct, that is probably an unpardonable sin to the extremists.

Maybe Al Sisi will slide on this.

al-Sisi is the figurehead of the Egyptian Army. Even if he had a heart attack, the EA would replace him overnight.

Egypt would remain stable, and would remain led by moderate Muslims that the idiots think don’t exist.

Al-Sisi is the anti-0bama of the Middle-East.

Yes, you are correct about that... The brazeness is what shocked me. It's one thing to shoot Kennedy from while concealed in a nearby building. It's another to charge head-on toward a head of state seated at an official function and get through his guard.
