An unpublished novel by Harper Lee is to finally see the light of day, 60 years after the US author put it aside to write To Kill a Mockingbird.
Go Set a Watchman, which features the character of Scout as an adult, will be released on 14 July.
Lee wrote it in the mid-1950s but put it aside on the advice of her editor.
"I thought it a pretty decent effort." said Lee in a statement. "I am humbled and amazed that this will now be published after all these years."

Whatever one thinks of her writing, publishing novels and launching lawsuits at age 88 is pretty amazing.
I'm not saying this is so; I'm just pointing out that this is a fairly widespread "conspiracy theory."

I guess I’m a product of modern culture. I thought this was about a sequel to the Hunger Games series ...
And I have read the rumor that the reverse is true: that SHE wrote Capote’s books. Sheesh!
Heaven forfend that two acclaimed writers should come from Monroeville!
She rightly and accurately depicted life in The South at the time.
I can’t wait for her ‘new’ novel. I bet it will be a NYT Bestseller, #1 on Amazon and Kindle.................
Read the book then watch the movie, it was fairly accurate in its faithfulness to the book. Gregory Peck was excellent..............
Written in the fifties? I’ll bet it has been massaged quite a bit to make it publishable in today’s world.
I’ve not heard that rumor, but even if true he may have just put into writing her words, and given her some pointers in the dramatic parts. It’s still a great work, and it was based on actual events from her childhood memories of the times, from a nearby county...............

I hope they have not made it PC, by removing any ‘unacceptable’ words for today’s ‘sensitive’ readers...................If so, it will be ruined from the start...............
I had a professor at Troy who was from Monroevlle, I always thought he was related to one of them but that could just be faulty memory.
I have a signed copy of ‘Mockingbird’ a friend of the family got. Lee rarely made public appearances at the time, so he got lucky and had several copies signed for our family. Look forward to reading her next book.
Everyone is related to someone else. Monroeville is a small town. It’s possible.
