JACKSON, MI - The first female mayor of Saline hopes to keep her streak going and become the first female representative in Michigan's 7th Congressional District, currently held by Republican incumbent Tim Walberg.

Driskell, a Democrat in her second term representing the 52nd District in Michigan's House of Representatives, announced her candidacy Monday morning, Feb. 9.

"I believe in helping neighbors in my district," the Saline resident said. "I hope to bring their concerns to Washington and work toward a better Michigan. I don't believe they're getting the representation they deserve."

Well Gretchen, as a Northfield Township resident, I am not getting the state representation I deserve right now. My congressman on the other hand is at least doing a decent job. I'll stick with Tim Walberg.

The good news here with Gretchen running is that she will no longer be my state rep and will no longer be raising my taxes when she loses either to Tim or someone else in the primary.

While Walberg has been pretty good, I do think its time for him to start looking for a replacement. If we could convince Dan Steele to move over this way I think he would be a very strong 7th district candidate.

Rob Steele’s good. I wouldn’t bet against Rick Jones or Mike Shirkey as the odds on favorite to win. They are usually good although not perfect. I really hope it’s not Richardville. While he’s great on guns, he’s pro-union and terrible on fiscal issues. I know that was his Monroe district, but this is a much bigger district. Six years from now, I’d keep an eye on Tom Barrett. He’s going to be a real good one if he can hold on to his democrat-leaning state rep district.

Yeah I like Mike Shirkey as my state senator but I figure he’ll stay where he is till he hits his term limit.

God help us if Randy decides to seek a higher office. Might as well have Schauer back in Congress. Randy is too beholding to union groups, especially AFSCME and the MEA.
