A D.C. dog owner did what anyone with a missing pet would do. He posted fliers — but then, he says, police threatened him with a $750,000 fine.

The fine seems excessive and strangely punitive, but anything can be overdone, even the compassionate act of posting a lost dog notice, or helping someone post it.

Sounds like this nice young childless couple just overdid it, enlisting 100’s if not over a 1000 volunteers. Then they followed up with additional postings of possible sightings. Someone complained.

How is this not an eighth amendment violation?

Pretty sure 20 times the average salary FAR exceeds excessive fines.
