WASHINGTON -- Elfriede Rinkel's past as a Nazi concentration camp guard didn't keep her from collecting nearly $120,000 in U.S. Social Security benefits.
Rinkel admitted to being stationed at the Ravensbrueck camp during World War II, where she worked with an attack dog trained by the SS, according to U.S. Justice Department records. She immigrated to California and married a German-born Jew whose parents had been killed in the Holocaust.
She agreed to leave the U.S. in 2006 and remains the only woman the Justice Department's Nazi-hunting unit ever initiated deportation proceedings against. Yet after Rinkel departed, the Social Security Administration kept paying her widow benefits, which began after her husband died, because there was no legal basis for stopping them until late last year.

I don’t understand a lot of those soldiers. Maybe they were already in the military and just got caught up in it. Must be hard to murder someone under orders knowing if you don’t you’ll be the next to kneel along the ditch.

What about the American Communists who supported Stalin and his successors? What about old Stalinists who came here after the Wall fell? Why aren’t they concerned about those payments, too? I suspect the numbers of recipients and the amounts received are much higher.
She would have been 22 years old when the war ended. The basis for persecuting her includes, "One prisoner reported that women were even worse than men in commanding their dogs to brutally attack inmates."
Japanese war criminals were never successfully characterized in the public mind as ‘right wing’.
If she was a guard at the camps, she was Waffen-SS, NOT regular army, Wehrmacht.
The Waffen-SS were the most fanatical believers of the Nazi party.
To join the SS, a recruit had to document their Aryan purity at least as far back as their 4x great grandparents.
In other words, they had no ancestors who weren’t of pure German blood.
Slav and Jewish ancestry would get them sent to the camps as INMATES.
Most members of the Waffen-SS were graduates of the Hitler Youth, thoroughly indoctrinated in Nazi Party ideology and brimming over with a very sadistic brand of anti-semitism.
They didn’t “get caught up in “ anything. They were either born with it or learned it at school and Hitler Youth.
Don’t make the mistake of thinking of her as a little old lady.
The female members of the Waffen-SS were usually the cruelist and most sadistic of the camp guards.
There were at least 4 DOCUMENTED cases of female SS guards being such sadists that they were relieved of duty and reassigned. I believe at least one was executed.
Also, Waffen-SS NEVER gave up their Nazi ideology.
I had 2 friends stationed in Germany during the 1970’s.
They both firmly believe that the bombings of the night clubs back then were old SS members getting in their last shots against the “enemy”.
Please don’t make the mistake of thinking of them as you would an American soldier who “went a little wrong”.
Accept that they were feral fanatics for whom nothing was too base. And remember that they were rewarded for being such.
No idea why this is an issue. You work in the US for decades, contribute thousands to the Social Security trust fund — but now someone creates a snit that you shouldn’t be getting any of your $ back because of what you did 70 years ago.

What you say is true through the middle of the war. After 1943, being able to fog a mirror was about the only criteria to join the Waffen SS. After 43, there were Finn, Estonian, Latvian, Russian, Cossack, Hungarian, and Wallonian, Waffen SS battalions and divisions.

I had forgotten all about those Finnish SS units.
The Finns were adamant that the units raised in Finland were to be used only fighting the Russian army.
I knew the Germans used locals in Estonia to kill the Jews, but I thought they were more “outside contractors” than anything else. Roving bands of cut throats, literally, whose only job was to kill Jews.
I never knew they made them official SS units.
As far as the Russians, Hitler and his gang thought as little of them as they did Jews.
From what I’ve read, Russian prisoners were treated like Jewish inmates, under fed and worked to death.

She was not forced to become a member of the SS or to participate in the plot to murder all Jewish people.
The posted article was not about Islamo-fascists.
She was not semitic by way of deceiving and marrying a son of victims of the Holocaust.
How young each of the Nazis were when committing the mass murders doesn’t matter. The same politicos who solicit sympathy for their youth otherwise demand that much younger children be treated as adults in our court system.
Japanese war criminals did not try to eliminate all Jewish people from the face of the earth. Neither did American commies/fascists. The posted article was not about them.
It doesn’t matter how old the Nazi war criminals are. Why should they be treated differently from other old murderers?
