Sea Shepherd to Pay Millions to Whale Killers
Yahoo! News ^ | June 9, 2015 | Taylor Hill

Sea Shepherd Conservation Society agreed to pay $2.55 million to Japan's Institute of Cetacean Research on Monday as part of a settlement to resolve a long-standing legal battle over the anti-whaling group’s tactics against Japanese whaling ships in the Antarctic.

The settlement came the same day the U.S. Supreme Court refused to hear Sea Shepherd’s appeal of a federal court’s finding that the group was in contempt of a court order to stay clear of Japanese whaling ships.

The activist group’s tactics at sea include throwing smoke bombs at Japanese whaling ships and using metal-reinforced ropes to damage propellers and rudders. The question is whether those tactics—which typically take place in international waters—amount to piracy, and whether a U.S. court can order those activities to be stopped if they take place outside its jurisdiction.

Sea Shepherd believes it can’t, but the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit Court upheld that it can. Now, thanks to the settlement, Sea Shepherd will be giving millions of dollars to an organization it has tirelessly battled against in a fight to save the whales.

The Japanese should sink them and let them drown.

LOL.. Where are the sea hippie supports on FR? Haven’t seen them around for some time. Missing the threads where I got to bash Watson and his gullible young fodder.

I’m still waiting for Captain Cocoa Puffs to try an attack on a Russian fishing ship.

The sea hippies are morons. And the Japs pretending they are conducting research, but instead are killing whales for their dinner tables are assholes.

Wrong + wrong ≠ Right

I always viewed their activities as “interfering with a lawful hunt”. Good. Let them pay.

There really isn’t anybody to root for on this one. Except the schadenfreude of seeing the sea hippies impoverished.

Seeing them write a big check isn’t nearly as fun as watching them destroy millions of dollars of equipment through sheer idiocy. Yeah, I’ll cut off a big Japanese ship with my million dollar carbon fiber sports boat and cry when the bow gets clipped off.

That was funny watching their bat boat play chicken with the Japanese "research" ship and seeing the inevitable result!

Fantastic. Not only is FR invaded with regular liberals, we have nannies that seem to think they have a say in Japan’s eating habits.

Newsflash: UN greenie numbers on whale populations are as fake as their global warming crap and whales arent puppies.

Grey Whales are overpopulating the North Pacific and should be thinned. It was funny watching those dirtbag hippies trying to act like sailors and failing miserably.

I believe the Russians took a group of these people a few of years ago and said they were going to put them on trial then let them go.

I am one of those Freepers who side with the Sea Hippies against the Japanese whale-killers. I have spent the majority of my life fighting or preparing to fight our country's enemies, so I'm not a wussie but I also sail and have often sailed in company with whales. They are clearly smart and inoffensive creatures and I am strongly against the Japanese slaughter of about a 1,000 whales per year with the lying cover of "research" to make them into food in contravention of international treaties.

The Japanese even used tsunami relief funds to rebuild their whaling fleet and when an international court ordered them to stop whaling, they went right back at it.

Never been a fan of hippies but Paul Watson has his heart in the right place and I would hope that the rest of us would resist with the same gumption if we are ever faced with tyranny.
